Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesIt can be noisy in the evening, specially if someone is performing with a loud speaker, even with the window closed the noise comes in (from 8pm - 11pm). The place does seem a bit old. Hot water takes 10mins to come through. The bed is a bit hard.
Staff was friendly & helpful. Balcony room was nice & spacious. Simple but clean. Hotel is a lovely old hacienda like house. Convenient location near the Zocalo.

United StatesRooms are very sparse. If you have a balcony over the zocalo you could chill in your room otherwise they are not that comfortable. Day staff was wonderful. Night staff grumpy and sort of rude if you come in after 11pm.
Location is one of the best in Oaxaca. Beds are relatively comfortable. Clean facilities.

IndiaHowever, a) no electric kettle in the room, and restaurant charges even for hot water, b) they say the room can accommodate 4 people, but the double beds are small, so it is challenging for a tallish couple (like us). c) room has no window, only door to balcony. So it gets very stuff at night, unless one leaves balcony door ajar, which feels a bit unsafe, d) staff is polite but not at all able to communicate in English, which is a bit of a challenge.
Excellent location. Rooms and hotel are old style, which is generally nice. Room faces the square, and has balcony, which is nice. Food in the restaurant is ok. Staff is courteous.

NetherlandsRooms need a bit of maintenance. Every day the bed had new wood-pulp on it fallen from the wooden ceiling beams. Big trash container below balcony. Hotel can't help that of course but good to be aware if you book the 3P room. Garbage is collected early by noisy truck.
The bed was comfortable. Very central location. Helpful and very friendly staff. Spacious room with a high ceiling. Good and silent fan in the right place.

GermanyThe main entrance side of the building is lined with tents of crafts market with it’s noise and additional crowds, as well as extra noise in the evening from musicians, clowns and singers (2-3 same time close to hotel). At the moment the Square is undergoing come construction works), so day time construction related noise too (April 2023). Some mosquitoes at night as the only way to get some cooler air at night is to open balcony doors, no mosquitoes nets or curtains. The hotel closes the doors till 6 a.m. If you have an early plane to catch make sure you arranged the doors being opened for you on a certain day ahead of time.
The Hotel itself is a beautiful historic building. We had a room with s balcony right over the entrance and facing the square. There is no AC, the ventilator mounted on the wall does it’s job. Very clean. Friendly stuff and owner. Many don’t speak English. Wi-Fi is good.

United StatesThis didn't bother me, but I mention it so that other travelers won't be disappointed. This isn't a modern "updated" hotel, I loved the history of the building, but there are aspects that are kind of worn and out of date by modern cosmopolitan standards. If you're looking for a super new American style luxury experience this place isn't for you. That being said, it's clean, friendly, in a great spot, and very reasonably priced.
I had a very nice stay at Hotel Monte Alban. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and very patient with my poor and limited Spanish. The room was clean and comfortable, and they included nice touches like a tidy every day which included two bottles of water and some locally made chocolates. The building itself was exactly what I was hoping for, a big stately colonial style mansion with a beautiful central courtyard and a balcony overlooking the square. I couldn't hope for a better location, very close to the zocalo and within walking distance of most attractions.

CanadaAlthough this place was advertised on Booking dot com, most of the clientele seem to be Spanish speakers. Advertised as a tourist hotel, it would be nice if someone spoke a little English but fine... it's Mexico. What they could do, however, is provide information. Most hotels provide a printed copy of restaurant hours and scheduled activities. Even in Spanish, I could understand. Friday evening around 10:30, the restaurant suddenly filled with people and there was a band. Another day, I walked in and found a dance class in progress; then, one morning I went down for breakfast and saw (& heard) a man breaking up the kitchen floor with a sledge hammer. Payment was another issue. When I checked out, they presented a receipt for the charge to my credit card. It was much more than I'd agreed to, but fortunately I had a print-out from Booking dot com with the correct charges. The woman at the desk seemed surprised, but eventually she refunded the overcharge - in Mexican pesos! Not useful when I was on my way to the airport. It was far more than I wanted to spend at the duty free shops and now I'll have to exchange the pesos for Canadian dollars, which means losing money in the transaction. Also, as mentioned by another reviewer, the square can be very noisy in the evening, but it doesn't last much past 11:30 p.m.
Hotel Monte Alban is an 18th century building with quite a bit of the original wall painting intact and interesting nooks and crannies. Crookedly hung, and sometimes damaged, pictures are on the walls. There's plenty of atmosphere and an excellent view of the square. The location is central to markets in the south and renovated, tourist attractions to the north.
