Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

CanadaStaff helpful, only when pushed to do so, i.e. cleaning staff took my shoes and bathing suit from hanging on hook beside my locker. Reception was asked 3 times to look for my missing items. Finally found them! Not enough cooking utensils like peeler, cutting knives, coffee maker. Fridge to small, jammed full for amounts of people. Music too loud during the day.
Decent hostel but Tulum location much better. Pool is average size, kitchen workable but not much utensils like peeler, can opener or coffee maker.

GermanyI felt very safe in the female dorm; staff is extremely friendly; you can get clean towels as much as you want, fantastic after a day at the beach (which is across the street) to exchange the sandy towel; pool area is so cute and facing the less windy lagoon; happy hour drinks were delish; R-1 bus from Cancun Centro stops right in front of hotel; walking distance to ferry terminal Caracol to get to Isla Mujeres

CanadaComparing Mayan Monkey Tulum with Cancun is tricky. I felt that the music was too loud, hard to hear and converse. Clean and comfortable, the pool was a bonus. The kitchen could use more utensils like cutting knives, peeler, spatula, hand towels, drinking glasses and mugs.

United StatesThe music is obnoxious or at least it was for me and it was driving me crazy and I also don't like the idea of electrical lines hanging over the swimming pool because I think it's just an accident waiting to happen and if you wait long enough it will happen before you kill somebody
They could do a better job of keeping the rooms cleaner although I know they try and it's not easy with so many people coming and going it's a never-ending job but unfortunately the rooms need to be cleaner and the showers are always allowing water to go into the floor and it gets ugly and nasty and people store their personal cosmetics and toiletries on the counter as if it's their home and they hang their clothes in the shower rooms and leave them there And I feel that there should be a sign Forbidding Any of that to happen because You can't put Eight people in the same room And have one person take over The sink or the bathroom. It's absurd. Also the air conditioner is set to 24° and I think personally it should be set to 23°

MexicoThey should provide locks for the lockers, I had to buy one once I was in the room. I didn't know that the lockers needed a lock and they never say anything about it in all the descriptions.

SpainThey told me that breakfast is 10$, but at the reception it said 6$, she then removed the sign, probably she wanted to sell it to me more expensive. Music was too loud.
Very social hostel with music and even salsa classes. Great location next to a lake and 5min to the beach. Good professional vibes overall. Value option at hotel zone definitely.

CanadaNice to provide Latin dance classes and meals on site. Thank you for moving me to a quieter room, as the initial room I was offered was next to the restaurant and the sound insulation very poor in that room. But in the new room, it was quiet and comfortable.

AustraliaI loved my stay with Mayan Monkey in Cancun so much that I ended up back there for another couple weeks before wrapping up my trip in Mexico. It’s a fun and social hostel with a good atmosphere, helpful staff and positive vibes. Dave, the tour organizer, was helpful as always and made sure we didn’t miss out on any of the hotel activities or special events along the club strip. Mayan Monkey makes you feel like you’re part of a big family, so be prepared to reroute your plans or push back your flights to spend more time with the amazing people you’ll meet here!

AustraliaMayan Monkey was the highlight of our trip in Mexico. It’s super close to the beach, restaurants and nightlife. The vibes there are amazing and the staff really look after you. Dave went above and beyond to make sure we had an incredible stay. He gave us a heap of travel tips and helped us to get tickets to local tours and the nightlife in the area. I lost my hat on a tour bus, but Dave went out of his way to track it down and made sure I got it back. If you're looking for a fun and social place to stay in Cancun, Mayan Monkey is the way to go.

GermanyThe dorm room and particularly the shower and toilet floors were always dirty, wet or covered in wet sand. It was not horrible but it could easily be remedied by just mopping the floor more often or providing a mop in the room so guests have at least the chance to clean up after themselves.
While a bit on the higher price side for a hostel, it is good value for money. Comfortable dorm beds, with curtains and electricity outlets, AC in the room. Towels are provided. Very nice, chilled and well equipped hostel, bar/restaurant, chill area, small pool, co-working space, laundry room. Breakfast & food in general is very good and lots of choice for breakfast. Location right at the lagoon (with crocodiles) and opposite to one of the few public beach accesses is great. Bus stop in front. Restaurants & supermarkt in immediate neighbourhood. Staff is friendly and helpful, they offer hostel activities and turs (but I did not make use of that).
