Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

SwitzerlandThe only reason why I will not give a 10/10 is because of the shower that has a very very low pressure. It is manageable but not very comfortable as you will take twice the time you take normally for a shower. This did not impact my stay but is worth mentioning.
Location is perfect to explore Georgetown, close to everything. I am solo traveler and I had a small private room with an excellent value for the money, even cheaper than a dorm in some hostels. The room is basic but you get everything you need. The place is clean, quiet and bed very comfortable. Wifi is good and fast. There is a self check in system that is simple and quick. The owner is very reactive to your messages and questions. I read some bad reviews about the owner that tries to scam but he is basically just asking 10 MYR per night of tourist tax, which is mentioned on booking and is pretty common in Malaysia where the price may not include all the taxes. I hope these comments will not deter future guests as this place is really good and I can only recommend booking a room if you are passing through and want to visit Georgetown on a budget.

MalaysiaThe smell of the area and my room. Maybe because of the hawker center is just below, does not smell good. Recommend owner to buy some air freshener and put around the common area. Also the bedsheets is not changed from the previous guest. I would suggest whoever wants to book, to bring own towels and disposable bed linens if you can
Location is superb. Just around the corner to Kimberly lane and other attractions. The bed is not saggy

SingaporeToo adventurous in my food hunt. Got food poisoning diarrhea so didn't get to travel and explore Penang. 3-4 days spent resting.
Street Food Paradise. Hostel location is very near 24/7 Seven Eleven cafe, laundry and food eateries. Walking distance to bus stops, Campbell street and Chowratsa Market.

El Salvador- Lights in the hallway were always on the 4 days so that light goes inside your room even if the door is closed. (I understand people is coming late at night and is because of them but maybe they can use the stairs lights. - the first bathroom to the left needs more cleaning. One of the things doesnt have to do with the management. But one day there was a man screaming crazy just outside and it was scary. Maybe a lock or a password in the entrance door would be great .
- Location was great/ walking distance to downtown and restaurants/ shops/ laundry and is just besides the bus stop. (Public transportation works amazing in Penang- you can go anywhere very easy) - bed was very comfortable - room was very clean - AC was working - Wifi very strong - autocheck in and check out was very easy - communication with the Hosts by booking was very good. I really enjoyed my stay there for 4 nights and felt recharged. It was very hot outside so every day when i was going back to the hostel at the end of the day i was excited hahaha.

United KingdomWhen you need a break from staying in shared rooms this place is perfect, a small private room for the same price as a dorm bed. Location is great the free CAT bus stop is just round the corner and so is chow Rasta market for cheap local eats. There are 3 toilets/showers for 12 beds so I never had to wait to use the bathroom. The whole check in process is done through WhatsApp which I don't really like but this went totally smoothly and I always got a quick response when I had any query. I only booked for 1 night but extended which was easy to do, I would use this place again if I'm ever back in Penang.

United KingdomPosting the 10 ringits Malaysia tax in the box and filming it instead of just charging me was pretty silly seems to be an issue in Penang generally that they hide all the extra taxes and fees that you have to be pay never had this issue in Kuala Lumpur or anywhere else I stayed in Malaysia but yet they all insist it is standard for the whole of Asia which is completely false only Georgetown Penang seems to use this broken system where you never know how much your paying for a room until after you have committed to staying...other than that good experience I would recommend this hotel as this seems to be a Penang issue in general not specific to this hotel
Very Cheap excellent location cheap to extend at short notice

United KingdomJust note that it seems booking.com does not currently add tourism tax to your payment when you book online (You can check this in your payment details in your booking.com account). So you may need to pay this fee, currently RM 10/per night, on arrival at the hostel.
Comfortable bed, very clean hostel and decent facilities. Easy check in.

United KingdomWalls are pretty thin but this wasn’t a problem for me. Bring earplugs incase your neighbours are noisy.
Having stayed in dorms for the last 2 months, a private room was a much needed break. This hostel is the perfect opportunity to enjoy a private room at the same price as a hostel, without losing out on quality. My room was a good size with a comfortable bed, desk, rack for storing clothes and cupboards that lock. Drinking water is available.

United KingdomExclusive to my room, but there was a window facing into the properties communal area with a curtain in front. This is a pointless addition especially as the communal area is illuminated by fluorescent lighting which can shine through the curtain if it is on. The individual rooms had no external window, which was not a problem for me but perhaps some would not like that, although that probably assists in keeping the room quiet which is more important for me. Also the light in the room is a bright fluorescent light which basically means either you are in darkness or dazzled by a bright ceiling light. Still, all of this is acceptable for 45MYR a night.
This is a bed in a small room, a desk, a stool, a clothes rack with a couple of hangers, a bin and an air conditioner. This is all I need as I’m here to explore Penang, the accommodation is for sleeping which was not compromised by the facilities provided. There is no staff, communication is done via Booking.com and WhatsApp and so you self-checkin via a coded door and a key safe for your room which worked perfectly for me but I can imagine would be a problem if the host was not available although always was when needed for me. 3 individual shared bathrooms which have shower sink and toilet, however no amenities such as shampoo and shower gel, however toilet paper is also provided in the room. There is also a communal hand basin outside the bathrooms with soap and also a microwave. However, this is not a Marriott or Shangri-La which is fine because I was not looking for that, in summary if you are just there to sleep and shower this is great value for money.

CanadaSince I never had the chance to stay, despite having paid, it was a losing situation. I wasn't able to self check in. With the help of a neighboring business, I was able to reach the owner, who said he would show up, he never did. He should be removed from having the privilege of advertising on booking.com.

United KingdomBe careful they're scamming people when you arrive there if you don't pay extra money in cash they won't let you in. and if you asked booking.com to step in,of course nothing will happen they're both useless . You will have two options to pay extra money or lose your booking anyway you will get lost.
Nothing at all.
