Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesSituated in government working area. Not central to Dunbar Square or other areas of interest.
Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Breakfast is included mostly buffet, but can order eggs. Beautiful grounds with interesting sculptures and quiet places to sit. The Vilas include several small restaurants and many Nepalese craft shops.

RussiaReviews don’t do justice to the impressions of this place. My son called this hotel nothing less than a palace, and he wasn’t far from the truth. Perhaps it is one of the most unusual hotels I have ever stayed in. First, consider the architecture and details. Wooden doors, hanging locks instead of plastic cards, and decor that makes you feel as though you’re in 18th-century Europe – from the furniture and wallpaper to the wooden panels, lamps, and overall decoration. The library on the second floor, the paintings, and the decor are simply incredible. It feels as if you’re not in a hotel, but truly in a palace. Everything is imbued with character and crafted with a rare, refined sense of taste – it’s very unusual and really cool. The hotel has everything you might need: on the premises there are small shops, four excellent restaurants (Nepalese restaurant and its personnel – my love), and even an ATM. Everything you could possibly need is right there, making it very convenient. I must also mention the staff. Anis, the hotel administrator, became our guide to the world of Nepal and helped us with everything. I am very grateful to him; such heartfelt treatment is also rare to come by. I feel that we have become friends, and I hope to keep in touch. Kathmandu itself is like a fairy tale and another world. And Baber Mahal Vilas is the perfect gateway into that world. Next time, we will stay here exclusively.

United KingdomWe stayed for 9 nights over Christmas and had a wonderful time. The hotel is charming and the staff are very helpful and friendly. We loved the fact that there are four restaurants on site, so we found ourselves eating in the hotel most nights.

United KingdomWe stayed here at the beginning and end of our trip to Nepal and are so glad that we did. On arrival we had booked a car from the airport through the hotel (cheaper than arranging ourselves) and our driver was there waiting for us. Anish on reception made us very welcome, showing us around and even came to check that I had been able to withdraw money ok from the on site ATM (the ones at the airport had declined). Other members of staff on reception and house keeping were very friendly and helpful (eg one of the house keeping staff insisted on carrying our cases downstairs). Anish had also arranged a car and driver to take us to Bandipur (again price much better than alternatives I found on the web) and although the road was atrocious in places, as a consequence of the recent landslides, some of the other drivers on the road ambitious in their passing etc our driver Ramesh got us there safely; at all times we felt very confident in his professionalism. We were delighted to see him waiting for us from our flight back from Pokhara and that he took us to Bhaktapur and on to the airport on our final day. (Again this was arranged via Anish and was better value for money than alternatives on the web - you can contact the hotel via the booking.com messaging system and they will arrange the car/driver for you). We again chose to eat in the hotel's Baikhal restaurant - the staff welcomed us back like lost friends. We enjoyed the Nepali cuisine and the cultural show; the dancing was very high quality and beautiful to watch. The hotel is indeed a heritage hotel (not a marketing over statement) and it is interesting to read the history that is provided in the room. We enjoyed staying here so much that we are already talking about when we can return.

United StatesThe only slight disappointment was that it is located in an isolated part of the city with no shops or cafes nearby, so during our one night's stay there we did not leave the property grounds.
I loved the sense of history in this hotel which is stuffed full of art, and artifacts, historical photos, and books. The food at their restaurant, K2, was exceptionally delicious. Our room was wonderfully clean and quiet, and the whole place absolutely charming and fun to explore and relax in! We liked the shops in the attached Babar Mahal Revisted too. And the staff were all lovely.
