Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews

Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Best Hostel truly lives up to its name! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the staff goes above and beyond to help, and the rooms are spotless and comfortable. The location is also great—close to everything but still peaceful at night. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Kathmandu! The host even offers free luggage storage when I'm hiking for 2 weeks!

Very good position in the centre of Kathmandu. So good and useful the restaurant inside. The room is clean and the bed very comfortable.

Best hostel is a nice place for everyone who wants to spend time in a peaceful and nice area of Kathmandu. Property was nice and staff were amazing and very helpful!

Bathrooms are sharing and can be a little bit more cleaner
The place radiates warmth and positive energy, making it the perfect escape. The rooms are spacious, and the vibe is both relaxing and rejuvenating. What truly sets this place apart is the restaurant—every dish I tried was exceptional, meeting Western standards in both taste and presentation. Over my 10-day stay, I explored the menu extensively, and it consistently exceeded expectations. The staff embodies hospitality at its finest, with a special mention for Santoshi. She is the heart and soul of the place—her warmth, enthusiasm, and vibrant energy create an atmosphere that feels like home. I originally planned to stay for three days but found myself so drawn to the good vibes and genuine care that I couldn’t resist extending my stay. It’s a place you won’t want to leave.

This is the second time I have stayed here and again it's been the most wholesome place. Sunny really does make such an effort to make you feel at home and all the staff are very friendly and always happy to help with anything. Thank you for such a wonderful time :)

Shower could be cleaner, and you could hear every sound what was happening in the house and outside, so was a bit hard to sleep in there.
Staff was super kind and helpful, also food was cheap and very delicious!

Not the owners fault, but located next to a school. If you plan to sleep past 8AM the bells, assembley and buses may wake you up.
Nice location, quiet street. Understand this is budget accommodation so don't expect luxuries. Suitable for a few days stay.

Our room was on the top floor and we found that the pigeons that live on the roof could be quite loud into the night. It didn't bother me but if you're a light sleeper I would ask for a room on the lower floors
Friendly and attentive host and staff, great atmosphere and brilliant food at a good price compared with surrounding restaurants. Private bedrooms in a hostel are great and ours had a good electric fan for the hot weather

The people running the hostel are all very lovely, warm hearted people. We felt right at home! You can always ask them for help with just about anything. The beds were very comfortable, too. We liked it so much, that we came back to stay there again after a trip.

First off, many thanks to Sunny for his gracious hospitality 🙏🏼 Best Hostel is a simple but warm accommodation. Great location that is about a 20 min walk from Thamel so it was nice to be close to the action but also be in a bit of a quieter place. Also, really great food, and a super friendly staff. I'll definitely be back next time I'm passing through.

the best hotel in Kathmandu for this price. modest but clean hotel. There is hot water, wi-fi works great, silence at night! no barking dogs and road noise. they have a cafe with reasonable prices and they will cook you food at your request, not spicy and not oversalted. the cook cooks deliciously. they also have natural coffee from a coffee machine. the staff is friendly and helpful. the atmosphere is kind. they try very hard.
