Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

There was some road noise at night and the parking was difficult to find.
Lovely historic hotel with a comfortable bed and restaurant with delicious food. The continental breakfast included was tasty and substantial and everyone was helpful and kind.

Beds were comfortable but a bit soft for us.
Free continental breakfast was sufficient and good, the staff were very friendly and helpful location is terrific just a short stroll to the Main Street, main meal at night was excellent and great value.

The water pressure in the shower was low but just good enough
Loved the room. It was very comfortable and elegant. We very much enjoyed the real ale too.

Location is a bit noisy. Rooms were quite hot.

Please work on getting better hot water pressure upstairs!
Lovely old hotel with character and charm - much nicer than some of the clinical finishes you see in modern places.

Was easy check in and parking assigned. Room was very clean and comfortable, well laid out. Staff assisted booking for dinner and reserved us a table. Food was good quality, continental breakfast was included with homemade muesli. Definitely recommend.

Loved the period furniture in my room and in the bar and restaurant. Enjoyed the historic photos of Wanganui on the walls. The Maori lady doing front of house at breakfast was hospitable and welcoming.

The rooms have been decorated tastefully, a mixture of modern (bathroom) and restored antique furniture. The Bar sticks a large variety of drinks, dinner in the bar was fine.

The last two times I’ve stayed a road sweeping truck has woken me up in the early hours of the morning. Not the property’s fault but still frustrating.
Lovely room with a comfortable bed. I loved having a bath too. Location is good. Nice that you can get room service for dinner.

the car parks need lines painted so we can park straight and leave space or other guests. once one car is out of line it reflects down the line
I liked the dinner I had in the Restuarant and both my breakfasts where exultant, I ordered slightly form the menue but the staff met all my requirements without a problem. I can always tell if the kitchen is on task by my poached eggs, they were absolutely perfect both breakfasts I had.

I didn’t like how loud the pub below was late at night. I just landed a bad room I guess.

I'm struggling to think of anything I didn't like. Our group had to be split between 2 places as you filled up to quickly, so next time we may ask to put some rooms on hold for us,
Awesome. Great rooms, warm, parking out the back easy to get too and off the main road. Quiet at night and so close to the markets on Saturday morning.

One night wasn’t enough.
The room was perfect. Loved the decor. Spotless. The staff were all great. Very friendly, helpful, full of smiles. Couldn’t do enough to help make the stay fantastic. Dinner was lovely, couldn’t fault the food or staff. Would most definitely stay again.
