Upon arriving we were given an old dirty room with mold in the shower. We asked for another room and were offered one, which was not yet finished by housekeeping. The room was also dirty and had mold however less severe. Staff did not reconize level of dirtiness appropriately.

The room very old. Carpet dirty and marked. The bathroom very dated. Noisy. We were in car park level with vehicle reversing and parking right outside. We had paid more for a better room but not sure if that is what we got. When booking there isn’t away to book a guaranteed balcony.

Beds were clean and rooms tidy, however we had two rooms and one of them smelled really bad. We tried fans as well as windows and doors open but to no avail. Like someone had been smoking heavily in there. Beds pretty lumpy. I wouldn’t come back, especially considering the cost.

Room was dirty. Bath had no proper plug They gave us a discount and complimentary wine with dinner and offered to move us to a more expensive hotel. They also badgered us about our dissatisfaction all through dinner and phoning the room to the point we unplugged the phone. Worst hotel on our 3 week trip and one of the most expensive

Good location.

There was no much choice in Franz Josef when we booked. We found the Scenic to be over-priced and over-rated for the quality. Perhaps it’s a matter of supply & demand. Our room was fine. The double bed was small. There was an odd odor in the hallways; slightly less obvious in the room. We did not use any of the amenities or facilities.

Well past its sell by date. Needs a full renovation. Restaurant well below par. We have stayed in some 17 hotels and motels during our stay. With the exception of this motel they have been exemplary. Beds uncomfortable.

This hotel is stuck back in the 90s. No air conditioning in the rooms, or any opening windows with flyscreen. This is made 10x worse as the bathroom doesn't have an exhaust fan (appears to just have a passive vent) and so when you showe the whole bathroom and you extension the whole room itself becomes incredibly hot and HUMID. Was a very uncomfortable night with only option being a (very LOUD) floor fan. Staff were nice enough and linen was clean. But floors were grotty old and stained carpet. We wore flip flops the whole time as we felt disgusted to walk on it Barefoot. Bathrooms and fixtures also incredibly dated. Cheap bar soap instead of the modern standards such as handwash. No shower screen door, so the whole bathroom gets quite wet + pair this with the dirty carpet made for very unpleasant dirty footprints throughout the bathroom tiles.

Excellent central location, and spacious room, but that's where the positives end.

There was no water dispenser and no lift (although the hotel porters were very helpful with our luggage).

The hotel is in an incredible location and the view from our room was amazing. The hotel had good facilities and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable, spacious and well presented with very nice toiletries. I wish that we were able to stay another day but we had such a tight schedule that this was not possible. I hope to return sometime soon.

The hotel seemed to specialize in groups, so the restaurant was noisy as groups came in together, and if you didn’t time it right, you ended up waiting a long time as all staff focused on serving a whole group.

The food here was very good quality.

Room was dated, floor looked like it had not been vacuumed, found dead bugs, stones at back entrance to room, mesh curtains was badly stained and yellow. Bed was uncomfortable with a big lump in the middle. Dust all over and an old fridge that made intermittent noise through out the night. Cost over $300NZD for the night. Expected more!!

You could clearly hear people walking/running/talking in the corridor which was a bit frustrating, limited parking so had to park on the road a little way from the accommodation, the restaurant food was very average but expensive (note though that a 2-course meal and breakfast was included in my accommodation cost). Bizarrely formal set up which perhaps works for the bus tours that come through but I felt a bit uncomfortable as a solo traveller. When I was seated they even took the other chair away which I found odd. Quite inflexible on timing of dinner - I'd wanted to have a shower before dinner but was advised I needed to eat immediately or the restaurant would not be able to cater for me. In the end, I was allowed 15 minutes to freshen up but it seemed a bit unnecessary. Didn't found the bed particularly comfortable so not a great night's sleep.

Hotel is in a central location in Franz Josef.

We really weren't happy with the accomodation. The room for almost $500 was SMELLY, not comfortable as you would expect for the price. I wouldn't say it is hotel, just very ordinary motel.

Excellent place to stay spotlessly clean great showers and beds to die for. Close to all local stores pubs and attractions. The restaurant was a treat also it’s a must stay if your over that way.

Room was next to the laundry and a smoke door. Laundry was used late into the evening people walking through the smoke door let it slam. Could hear people in other rooms. Shower was small and could hardly bend to was feet.
