Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Nothing, all good.
It was a good experience, it has an amazing location, good rooms, shared bathrooms and a very big shared kitchen, well equipped as well. I do recommend it.

Great location, huge kitchen with lots of equipment and we enjoyed the pool table. The room was decent, good location in the town just off the lake too.

Maybe an extra pillow wouldn’t go amiss!
Amazing location, loads of free parking nearby and right in the centre of town. Huge kitchen and a few different common areas. Lovely balcony for an evening drink. We had to extend our stay as the road to Franz Josef was closed and it was no problem. Actually really glad we changed our plans as we loved Wanaka

Only downside in the kitchen is that there is "only" an airfryer, no normal oven.
The rooms are spacious and feel cozy. The kitchen is well stocked and massiv. Also everything was super clean during my 4 nights there.

Small private bathroom but it works. Well stocked kitchen. Right in town so you can just walk everywhere. And just a short w minute walk away to free parking spots.

The two girls stayed in 104 on 26th are very much lack of common sense. kept talking even after I politely mentioned I need to sleep . It was after 10 pm already . What should I do in this case ? And they were big bully after my request , was spraying perfume many times and laughing while texting .

Like a prison or, at best, an army barracks. Cold and unfriendly. Surveillance cameras everywhere, which makes it really creepy. Avoid like the plague.

This accommodation was not our usual - it is a Hostel - but it was wonderful. We arrived late and I was sent clear instructions for entry after hours. The room was super clean and ours came with a private bathroom and linen provided. There is also a communal kitchen, lounge etc seperate to the bedrooms if you want to use it. All of it was lovely and clean - lots of neat people there too of all ages (retired Kiwis, overseas travellers - young and old). Location was perfect - no parking onsite but there was plenty nearby. The hostel is right next to the supermarket, a short stroll to the lake and town. Great coffee option just outside from 8am, and crepes - perfect way to start the day !!

For the price what a disappointment. No beside table so nowhere to put things including bedside light. And 1 pillow each!! Very cheap toilet paper. And no room in en suite.
For backpackers probably facilities very good. Kitchen appeared well equipped and clean chill out room TV room, laundry etc all appeared very adequate.

For $250 a night to have just a bed and a tiny bathroom was pretty poor, it really should have a tv and a kitchenette, bed was pretty uncomfortable aswell

I would've liked the option for same-sex rooms.
I liked that I didn't have to sleep in bunk beds, the bed was comfortable and clean, and the sofas were really comfy. There was a big kitchen which was great too

Since the beds are "real beds" and not bunkbeds where you can draw the curtains usually, there wasn't as much privacy but I stayed in a three beds dorm so it was totaly fine.
I loved my stay at Wanaka. The Hostel is super nice. The kitchen is big and it's actually the better area to chill out then the chill out room haha. It has a TV room as well and just over all great. The location is excelent right next to a really good coffee shop and the lake is close by. The beds are really comfortable. And also you get a towel for the shower (really appreciated that).
