Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews

Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. The location is convenient, right next to the railroad, though it could be noisy at times. The staff was friendly and helpful.

The rooms are just above the railway, so the train wakes you up early in the morning. Overall it is a bit run down - it would need some deep cleaning and fixing here and there.
The hostel is very central, the staff is nice. WiFi is ok. It's quite cheap so was not expecting anything exceptional. They hand in free towels

Little more expensive than most dormitories of that size but the added breakfast made up for it.
Comfy bed. Staff super friendly and helpful. Good breakfast and loved the upstairs communal area. Just a shame it was a little quiet but still enjoyed the company of both staff and the residents that were there.

We had to climb 4 flights of stairs to our room that were quite steep. We had another guest opposite us who talked very loudly until after 2am Messaged the staff and got no response
Room was clean and comfortable enough for the price. They provided breakfast packs for our early Machu Picchu visit that were great.

The breakfast was awful… you got one egg and a bun and a banana …that’s it …
It was a great location even though right by the train tracks … hes was comfortable and shower head was the best with hot water !

A bit run down. Could do with some love. Mouldy smells but owner helped with a humidifier that n our room.
Good location, close to bus stop for MP and Train Station. Great communal area

The hostel has a perfect location. It is close to bars, restaurants, market and the train station. The staff are nice. They pack your breakfast in lunch boxes when you leave early for exploring the Machu Picchu. It has a nice common area.

Maps.Me location is wrong. Staff was pretty much non-existent.
Location!!! Step off the PeruRail train and it’s the closest hotel. No joking. Hot showers. Bagged breakfast if you leave early.

Expensive for what it offers, but Aguas Calientes is generally like that.
Central location, nice common areas, ready to pick up breakfast bag, if you have an early start.

The room was very small, had to really squeeze past a bunk to reach the bathroom. They also had made my bed and taken my towel before I had checked out, it was 9am so still early
The roof top area was nice for relaxing

It is close to the train line, so it can be quite loud at times.
Close proximity to the train line, good facilities on site, including a comfortable rooftop bar/kitchen. Staff were great helping me get Machu Picchu tickets last minute!

It’s very noisy, you can hear everybody on the stairs and in the courtyard (train didn’t bother us so much). People tend to be up early too for Machu Picchu so expect noise from 5am

While the room and reception being open all the time is convenient, there was no staff around, which made it feel insecure. It would be easy for someone to enter the room or steal luggage from the reception area without being noticed. More staff presence or security measures would improve the safety.
The hostel was very clean, which made the stay comfortable. I appreciated the early breakfast left at the reception. It was convenient for those of us with early departures.

Had a hostel room for 4 people with priv bathroom, sadly the door coundn‘t be closed properly
Hostel is right next to the Center, so its close to everything, sadly also to the loud trains
