Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews

Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Hostal structure probably avoids booking to 60+. Reception is on third floor... Impossible. I suggest advise It on hostal's main page.

I cannot think of anything that we didn't like.
The showers were great. The lady working at the front desk gave us great recommendations for alpaca store and a Peruvian restaurant. Everyone was friendly there, the roof terrace with hammocks.

The bathroom wasn't very clean (although this was probably due to the guests), BUT the toilets didn't work very well.
Staff were very friendly and very helpful. The breakfast was excellent considering the price.

Cooking dinner was not so easy, lids were missing knobs and handles, no small pots, no bowls for microwaving food, no lighter for gas stove. no hooks in bathroom for hanging my things.
Good location, close to centre and most of the city's amenities, showers are hot, staff are friendly and helpful, good breakfast included, dorm beds good, clean and comfortable, easy going atmosphere, wifi was reliable.

No window in the bathroom and actually there is an open window always in-between the room and the bathroom so no total privacy.
The building is very nice with interior balcony and colourful walls, a beautiful terrace and good breakfast! Open 24/7 and laundry service. Very good location.

The bathroom floor is really slippery and if they put anti slip plastic it would feel safe. The surfaces to enter the rooms and kitchen are pretty uneven. It’s easy to stumble. Breakfast is pretty basic. Rooms have a huge window on top that swallows light so it’s pretty easy to wake up early even if you don’t want to.
Location is absolutely unbeatable. Close to everything in Arequipa. Staff is really nice and it’s worth what you pay for. You can also use the kitchen here.

The metal lockers made trying to leave at 3am to go to Colca Canyon hard (making sure to not wake up the whole room).
Breakfast was amazing -- the best bread I've had in Peru! The room (8 person mixed dorm) was fine, beds were warm, shower was clean, and soap was provided.

You can use the kitchen to prepare your own meals but the equipment is very old and worn.
Very good location, near Plaza de Armas. The staff is super friendly. We could wash our laundry for a small amount and they organized a very nice group trip to the Colca Canyon for us. The room was nice as well with a very hot shower all the time. The breakfast (egg, bread, jam and butter, coffee and tea) was ok. From the terrace you have a nice view over the city. Extra point: you can store your luggage after your check out and the even offer a shower for 10soles after your check out - very good if you have a nightbus.

Great location, very central and felt safe. Staff were really kind- they let us crash out in a common area when we arrived at 5am and swapped out breakfasts around so that we could have one that day because we were going to miss one when we left on another early bus at the end of our stay. Laundry was super fast and cheap. Breakfast was the best I have had in Peru. The rooftop area has a cafe (a good one) but no obligation to buy anything if you just want to hang out. They sell beer and water at a good price at the front desk. Shower was HOT in the evening and morning. Beautiful old building. Lots of places to hang our stuff.

Thin pillows and lack of bath mat
The hostel has a great location and helpful, friendly staff. The rooms are simple but adequate, as was breakfast. Plenty hot water and we had no problems with the WiFi.

It would have been nice to have more towels and more wardrobe space.
The room was as we expected and was good value for money e.g. clean and comfortable. Mango was in a really good location, near to the main square, and the roof terrace was really nice, with hammocks, comfy seating and a bar.

The hostel is kept super clean. I loved the included breakfast. The location is amazing and the staff were super nice. I was very satisfied with this hostel and ended up extending my stay.

Noisy in 501 near the kitchen - especially during breakfast when juices were being made. No window in the bathroom or bedroom so often had the door open
Perfect location near main square, good to have all female dorm option. Helpful to store luggage and staff very helpful.
