Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Brazilvery well located - my room was a bit noisy during the weekends and AC was not on - so we had to keep the windows open (summer time)

AustraliaShared bathrooms which normally isn't an issue but did lack cleanliness. Bed was a little hard and pillows were terrible, but extra decorative pillows were sufficient. No washing machine, but self service readily available 600m away.
24/7 reception, breakfast provided with full kitchen. Terrace with great views of Lisbon. Great location quiet despite being close the nightlife, luggage storage. Rooms with great airconditioning, hooks to hang coats and clothes. Big bed and room cleaning occured. Balcony with ocean views! Elevator too.

SpainI didn't like the noise. But other than that, everything was very good. I also didn't like how the hostel staff handled a problem I had. In my room, there was an older man, around 50-60 years old, who seemed to be living there. His space was cluttered with plastic bags and cardboard, and in the mornings and evenings, you could hear him rustling the bags for some reason, counting coins, and talking to himself. To make matters worse, he snored loudly with sleep apnea. This could be tolerable, but what really left a bad taste in my mouth was when my partner and I prepared our suitcase in the morning to visit the city. We left the suitcase on my bed, covered with a blanket, just for five minutes while we washed our faces. When we returned, the man was on my bed, likely rummaging through our suitcase to steal something. I slapped him and went to reception to complain. All they did was change our room, which I understand since they couldn't evict him without clear evidence. However, I was surprised by their lack of interest in the situation. It's evident that the man lives there. If it were up to me, I would have thrown him back out on the street. Let this be a warning to anyone who encounters him. He appears friendly (because I've seen him interact, albeit strangely, with other guests) but behind the scenes, he's a deceitful person. Additionally, the state of the bathrooms was disgusting. They were always very dirty and unclean.
The views, depending on the room you get, are nice. The terrace feels like a lookout, not very spectacular but with good views. The location is very central, perfect for visiting Lisbon, but the downside is that it's quite noisy at night due to many visitors who enjoy partying.

United StatesThere are certain community rooms that close at night time. I wanted to put my leftovers in the fridge in the kitchen that guests are able to use, but the space was already locked up for the night.
This was my first hostel experience and this place was great! I arrived before I could check in, but they have a locked room that you can store your luggage in until your room is ready. The location was perfect for walking to sight see, shops, restaurants, pastel de nata :), it was also only a few minutes walk to the train station.

IndiaThe beds are made of wood and are noisy especially when the person on the upper berth moves.
The location is the centre of the city. Everything is easily accessible. The staff is super helpful and always smiling. The rooms and washrooms are clean. The rooms with city view are the best. The terrace is also superb. Breakfast is also included which has got sooo many options and keeps you full all day. Homemade Cake is a perk. 😍

CanadaHonestly we really had no cons. I will say though, it is up a big hill so be prepared for that. If you have your luggage I would suggest getting an uber to the hostel.
Absolutely loved this hostel. The location was excellent. We stayed in a private room and everything seemed fairly quiet on our end. Beautiful little garden area and the free breakfast was basic but still great. Orange juice was unreal.

FranceThe wifi didn't reach my room on the third floor sadly! But I went to the lounge to access it.
Great hostel! The free breakfast had a variety of options including cereals, bread, chocolate cake and orange juice. There's a lounge to play games at, charge your phone, use a computer or watch tv, the kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need. Everything was clean and tidy and the staff was very kind and professional. Plus, apart from the city tax (2€/day) there are no additional charges. The locket for the locker is free, there's soap in the bathroom, a socket and light next to your bed and comfortable bedsheets.

United StatesMore single sex dormitories would be nice. I feel safer in all female dorm rooms and I can dress in the room and not have to change in the bathroom.
The location put me in the thick of the tourist activities, making it easy to see the sights and sites. It is on a side street so is quieter. Stunning old home with lots of balconies and good bathrooms.

United StatesUnhelpful staff. Three of them chatting all the time, instead of checking people in. Zero knowledge of Lisbon attractions and how to get there. No wifi in the room, and next morning no wifi anywhere. Dilapidated rickety bunks that shake all over when the person in the upper one moves. NO OUTLETS TO CHARGE YOUR PHONE if you are in the beds in the middle of the room. There are extension cords at the rate of just one plug for traveler, and they are still nowhere near the middle beds. Lockers barely fit a standard carryon and you have to shove it in. No curtains, zero privacy for the beds in the middle of the room. The mattresses are so hard and pillows so tiny that all five males in the room were snoring like thunder all night. Obviously lots of noise outside too. No toilet paper since 4 pm in any stalls. In the morning the rude cleaner did not let me in. Toilets are marked “marias” for ladies and sometimes else weird for gents, which is by the way derogatory in some countries, and results in confusion. Rooms have no numbers but are named after famous people, which also results in confusion. Breakfast is bread and cheapest cheese and ham. There is a large terrase with a view, and no tables or chairs to enjoy. This is such a harsh disappointment after royal treatment in other Lisbon hostels just a few years ago.
