Our stay at Matriz 55 was incredible. Our hosts Susana and Pedro were so friendly and helpful. They were nice enough to allow us to check-in early and they gave us excellent restaurant recommendations. The hotel is very clean and perfectly situated. The sheets and the towels smelled amazing. The breakfast was an especially nice treat with all local ingredients. We highly recommend this hotel and would come back again!

We had a lovely few days staying at Hostel Matriz 55. Pedro and Sussanna were great hosts, giving us lots of useful information about Sao Miguel and were always friendly and happy to have a chat. Breakfast was a lovely selection of local food... cheeses, bread's, jams and pineapple provided by Elena with a big smile. The room was really comfortable with a big bed, lots of light and a wonderful shower. All in all, I would defintely recommend staying here!

That we didn’t stay longer

We booked a last minute stay at the Hostel because our flight got cancelled. Pedro und Susanna were just lovely and let us feel right at home. The Hostel and the room were tastefully furnished and neat. Their three cats roaming in the hostel just rounded up the experience.

I honestly cannot find a single shortcoming. The hosts are incredibly nice and helpful in every way—kindly checking in about your stay, offering recommendations, and thoroughly explaining everything. The rooms are perfect - clean, with air conditioning. The location is also ideal, right in the city center. It feels like staying in a hotel, but even better. I highly recommend this place to everyone.

It was amazing

The best hostel I have ever been to! Amazing staff, epic location, SUPER clean bathrooms and bedsheets. Not only was this the first hostel to offer free towels they had also provided individual hanging hooks for each person. Breakfast was amazing as well ( oh the fresh pineapples of azores ) Spacious lockers and gorgeous interior. It didn't feel like a hostel or a hotel it had this warm and comfortable feeling, making you believe you are home. Overall, if you find this place when visiting azores, just book it!

Want to go to Azores without leaving your house? At Susanna and Pedro's place you will find yourself at home. Staff is caring even before you arrive by asking your flight updates and giving you an headsup on the weather. Room were cleaned daily and all the structure is super new! Breakfast includes exclusively local products and the beer biscuits that they use to bake are just unbelievable. Will come back for sure!

Matriz 55 has it all and it doesn’t get much better than this… Only book this place if you’re looking for: - The perfect location of an Airbnb (it doesn’t get any more central… unless you want to sleep in the church) - The quality and attention to detail of a great hotel (nicest towels ever, room gets cleaned every day etc…) - The vibe of a hostel, where you could easily meet people. - But more than anything - The hospitality of a guest house, where the host will be truly dedicated to making yоu feel at home. Pedro and Susana might be the best hosts ever. Their hospitality and readiness to help is unmatched and they really made us feel like we’re visiting family.

I had an amazing experience staying at this beautiful ho(s)tel for a couple of nights. I stayed in a private room with its own bathroom but the property offers dormitory rooms for shared accommodation too (hostel). The hotel itself is beautiful, vibrant and made of local materials - I almost felt at home! Everyone in the staff was super-friendly and helpful. The owners are lovely and have put so much love into this project; that's obvious for sure! They go the extra mile to answer any questions and give directions. The breakfast has -indeed- specific options, but this is because everything is locally sourced and the quality was spectacular (don't miss the pineapple!). The room was sparkling clean, beautifully decorated and quiet for a good night's sleep. The property is located extremely centrally and everything is close-by. This was top accommodation in Ponta Delgada and highly recommended!
