Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomThe room for women wasn’t ready need to wait 4 hours ,so I went for a long walk when I arrived the owner changed mind and the new room will be mixer which I didn’t accepted I paid for 15 days for only female room so he gave me an old room that wasn’t clean for a while he was upset because I didn’t accept the new room . The old room was very old and no one haven’t clean for a long time very basic room and in the ceiling was full with rounded lights so if you’re at top you’ll have direct to you face the light ( lovely ) At the hostel people smoking outside inside common aéreas (2)plenty middle age guys playing in a big pool table so .. Only one fridge and was full so everything is shared The doors doesn’t lock so always are open in the only females Everybody is a big family so everybody share common spaces like no privacy Because of my complain about the filthy old room the owner shouting me that I was very bad energy and I put faces to him ( is truth I was upset but didn’t shout o scream )and trying to kick me out he pushed my suitcase resulting I have now 3 wheels and he didn’t let me to go upstairs and take my food pushed me to get out soon I called booking .com they help me have my refund and never again this hostal If you’re with males friends o partner no problem but if you’re alone females I won’t recommend this hostal it has weirds feelings

New ZealandThe beds were squeaky and felt like they would break. Would have been nice to have a little light and shelf by the bed to put things on. The bathrooms were very small with showerstalls only having curtains, not doors and no constant hot water, and they were unisex. The toilets were tiny too.
Tommy and Stephanie were very nice and friendly. The rooms were spacious. The kitchen was small but nice. They had a little outdoor area with a pool table and a spa.

TaiwanDidn’t check ID when I arrived Poor showers, sometimes no hot water, water pressure is low The staff wasn’t there all the the time, so people just keep ring the bell, and ask other guests are you staff???
When the owner see I’m solo, he helped me move to the female room, which made me feel safer, thank you!

BrazilI traveled for 7 months and Macarena hostel was the worst hostel I stayed in in this period. I had booked 2 nights and only stayed there for one, I even tried another place to go in my first night there, but it was too late and everything was closed. The sheet on my bed smelled like someone had slept there for a week, there was gum stuck to my bed, the bathroom has nowhere to hang clothes/towels, just plastic curtains. Not to mention that my room was next to the socializing area, and it smelled cigarettes.
The other guests in my room were friendly. The lockers has a good size.

BrazilI booked at Macarena but ended being placed in another hostel (17 Hostel) because of an overbook mistake by the hostel. The guy in reception was having a hard time dealing with this mistake and was extremely rude, even though I had nothing to do with it.
Facilities are okay for the price.

SpainThere are always things that could be better and one of them that could easily change is curtains in the room (:
It's a fairily good hostel - facilities as depicted in the photos. Clean, good location and staff always around willing to help. - They speak perfect Spanish amongst other languages so Spanish friends, safe place! What I liked the most was that there's a free pool and a sauna! How cool is that! Check out was at 12 when I stayed which is appreciated

New ZealandSqueaky beds No Spa or Sauna working 12 bed dorm super noisey with everyone banging out the doors all hours, or just leaving them open.. didn’t feel safe.. Not really safe with all the doors open, no locks on doors. Disappointed when wanting to extend trip, they wanted you to pack up. Check out and re check in at 3pm!! Showers cold and limited privacy. Would I stay again. No. But it was an experience.

Austria1- facilities: there were not enough bathrooms and toilets for the guests (1 seated toilet for the whole ground floor, 2 showers with a clogged urinal) leading to people peeing in clogged urinals and the showers every day (pic attached). in our room there was only one big light, no bedside lamps. 2- security: for a change i stayed in the all female dorm. but the room was the first one when you come into the house, right next to reception, and there was no key/keycard for the room! the cleaning staff would also leave the door wide open after coming in ( no clue why but they made our beds everyday) so that from the street you could have walked straight in (since reception is not attended at all times). you did get a small locker space for valuables, but i wish there were keys. on the day i had to leave early (pre-reception time) the latch of the door was broken. another guest helped me fix it so i could leave the house in time for my bus. in case of emergency not sure this would do. 3- service: reception was on demand - and serviced by an array of volunteers, some of whom where nice, but others pretty grumpy.
the location met nice people in my room

SpainI don't have any complaints
Enjoying yourself at the Macarena hostel is definitely the easiest experience I've had at a hostel. It can be very social and exiting or very calm and you have the freedom to do your own thing

Czech Republic-The hostel was extremely loud. There was party with loud music going on until midnight on the terrase and I had just room heading to the terrace so there was no possibility to sleep. -The ac in the room was also extremely loud and my roommate keep turning it on druing night (which is pribably more about her than about the hostel but still - the AC is supeeloud) -There are not enough showers and the hot water is almost not working. In the toilets there is often missing toilet paper. -There were random people going in and out to our room (again probably problem of the roommate not of the hostel itself) -the top bed is terrible. There is no shelve so whatever tou out next to the pillow will fall off -in general there is a feel that the hostel is overcrowded and very loud
The location was great The outdoor terasse was kinda nice The room was clean and there is a locker

Outstanding. Tommy is an exceptional person who genuinely cares that everyone is happy. He’s employed a great team, equipped the common area with a jacuzzi, sauna and pool table and spends hours there each day socialising with the guests and making introductions. Perfectly located between the action of the bars and the quiet residential area, it’s tranquil at night but only 2 minutes away from the nightlife.

CanadaNothing. Sometimes you might have to wait for the shower once and a while as everyone likes to shower at the same time when they come back from the beach but people are respectful of who’s up next!
Macarena and it’s owner Tommy, created a 8 days I will never forget. The atmosphere he creates, the common space allows and the guests bring was like no other. It has everything you could need, a pool table that brings people together and a special place in my heart. Nothing better than a hostel where the owner is always present and takes a tremendous amount of pride every detail is kept up to high standards. Make sure to ring the reception bell a minimum of 10 times for Ricardo ;)

EstoniaThe only thing that could be better would be the water pressure in the showers, but that seemed to be an overall problem in the area. Heard some of my friends from other hostels have that as well.
I liked the clean rooms, cool outdoor area (perfect for hanging out, didn’t see some other hostels in Lagos having a place like that) - perfect for solo travellers
