The common area is open to the sleeping areas via a gap between the walls and the ceilings. Because of this, sound and light travel freely from the sitting area. It is thus harder to be considerate of each other's varied schedules. Mostly unrelated, be aware many of the local restaurants' hours are incorrectly reported on Google maps.

The host was patient with my slightly late arrival, and was kind and helpful during my stay. Everything was clean, the kitchen is organized and easy to use. The waves crashing into the shore makes for a pleasant sound to sleep to. Nothing was more than about an hour drive from the hostel.

The 'room' is a partitioned dormitory with curtain door. The booker should be careful with your expectation of a room. It can be noisy.

I liked a location and kitchen access. It’s a lot of space for a hostel with a reasonable price. There is a parking and local shops nearby. In the hostel you will get a small locker for your valuables. Location is good quiet place good for hiking. All business and activities are happening in Funchal. I hired a car but found driving in Madeira bit stressful. There are buses from corner shop to Funchal and other places. If you’re light sleeper you might need an earplugs , there is just thin partition between the rooms and curtains instead of doors.

All the other guest were super friendly, it was very easy to get in touch with other guests and even plan some trips together. The north side of the island can be colder then the rest of the island in January. I was very happy the room got a lot of blankets! I never felt cold. The house is soo close to the see! It's beautiful ❤️

The oven is kinda weak, took me more time preparing stuff in there.

It was comfy and the owner and housekeepers were super nice and caring. I felt very taken care of. It’s directly at the ocean which gifted me with the oceans sound all the time I was there. Everything was there for cooking decent meals.

An extra stove/induction hob could be useful for when cooking.

With there only being 6 rooms available and a minimum booking requirement of 4 days it means it is guaranteed that at least one other person will be there all 4 days with you - and likely, more than one person.. and even more likely, 3-4 people overlapping at least 2 days. This meant, with all the rooms being single rooms as well, everyone is in a like minded space and it brings a real family feel to the place while you are there. Obviously it helps with people being able to communicate in the same language whilst you are there, but I was able to make good friends with a couple other English speakers which was great and really enhanced my experience at the hostel and on the travels of the island! The place itself is well equipped and decorated with real personality. Hear the waves falling to sleep. Walking distance (15mins) into Sao Vicente where there is good restaurants and a wine bar.

I would recommend having a car if you stay at this hostel but this is just my personal opinion :).

Lots of space and very comfortable. The owner brought us fresh vegetables for free to cook as well as having many other useful things such as sun cream and yoga mats for free use. The rooms were large and comfortable with plenty of storage. The kitchen was well equipped with seasonings and oil to use. You can hear people in the night but this is typical for a hostel and didn't bother me, just remember ear plugs. Overall, a lovely experience in this hostel and I would definitely recommend and will come back in the future.
