  • Kamenarien Review Score: 10

“What a wonderful place with a lovely family. Thank you so much for this experience. It’s a very old and traditional Japanese wood house. We enjoyed our stay. It gave us "Ghibli vibes". Unfortunately we had to leave one day earlier than planned because of some health issues. Luckily the host called for us a local doctor and made an appointment for me. And we got our missed night refunded without us even asking! I can’t thank you enough. Such good people. We will definitely come again one day!”

  • Shirakawago Guest House Kei Review Score: 10

“The hosts are literally the best.”

  • “Located close to Atami Station but requires a bit of a climb to reach the guest house. The lobby looks a bit outdated but the room itself is comfortable.”

  • Hostel Knot Review Score: 6

“I really liked the common space of the hostel it was really nice and homely. They had really good restaurant recommendations, especially breakfast we went to the one they suggested and it was so good! Location is so good, easy to get around town from the hostel.”

  • “Easy to find, cool location despite being a bit off the main path. Very neat and well kept. Other guests were respectful and staff helpful.”

  • Guesthouse SHIGI Review Score: 9

“We had the whole house for ourselves. Shigi is a traditional Japanese house. The owner gave us a lift to the supermarket, where we bought our dinner. The village is very small and there didn't seem to be any restaurant that suited us, so dinner at home was perfect.”

  • SOY Review Score: 10

“We stayed two nights at SOY and it was a highlight of our trip. The accommodation is so beautifully designed and the kindness of Tai and his family is above and beyond. The Japanese breakfast was superb and the coffee delicious. It was the perfect base to come back to after exploring the town and surrounds.”

  • Auberge Hidanomori Review Score: 10

“A secluded hillside inn near Takayama, accessible by car with convenient on-site parking. Perfect for those seeking a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the intimate onsen bath—though not private—added a lovely touch to the stay.”
