Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

The staff - very friendly. The hostel is very clean. Location is walking distance to the city center. Bed is very comfortable. Free towel, soap and shampoo.

everything was perfect. Valm hostel with a nice and friendly host. Really clean and confortable room. The sharing spaces are also clean and there is everything available for making sure we spend a good time in the hostel.

The hostel area has three schools, so during the early morning the neighbourhood was a bit noisy.
Great place, managed by a family. Very friendly, always keen to help you with anything you need. They cooked every day for breakfast, and the atmosphere was great.

The 1st hostel since my Asia trip starting beginning November, where all the facilities are tip top. The beds are perfect, no showers with broken showerhead, no leaking taps, toilets clean and working. Rooms with locker, nice shared area with kitchen.

Clean, comfortable, and quiet. Very nice breakfast with homemade goodies! The place is slightly outside of downtown but still walkable to most places. The owner is very knowledgeable and can help/recommend whatever you need.

As soon I arrived in Chiang Rai started feeling unwell, getting to Stay In Hostel my health situation got worse, understanding that I was feeling sick, barely finished the check in process, the owner offered to take me to the hospital which was such a great help since I had just got in town. Not only that, after long hours of bus ride, having not eating, the owner took my wife with his car, searching for rice porridge (the only thing I could eat, since I was hospitalized for that night). That was, over past 23:00 p.m. on Sunday!!! If it wasn’t for him, everything thing would be very stressful. During all time, my wife felt his concern and kindness towards our situation. No enough words to express gratitude for the owner, considering that it was quite late in the evening.

A bit overrated, the female room was really crowded and I got infected and sick by a girl who was coughing the whole night.
The best asset of this hostel is its receptionist. Super polite, very helpful, smiling, and patient. I am sorry for forgetting his name but you will recognize him once you meet. Thank you for all advice and support!

Such a nice place to stay in chiang rai, private room was so comfortable with a great free breakfast and the friendliest most helpful staff, we booked our slow boat to Laos with these also the day before and everything went as it should
