We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. It was so nice to be here. I spent a total of 6 nights there. I would keep coming back. I also attended the Open Water Dive course here. My instructor Aaron was just great! And JJ was just super friendly and helpful at all times.

GermanyThe Dearly Koh Tao Hostel is such a beautiful place. The private rooms are clean and quite big with an amazing view. The breakfast is a buffet with lots of delicious choices. The hostel provides a beach or sunset shuttle each day and many nice events. I would totally recommend it!

SwitzerlandDiving gear could use a bit of maintenance, at least the depth gage didn't work on my gear. I would like it as redundancy to the diving computer.
Booked one night, got my foot in the door and extended to like 10ish days at reception. Went on 11 dives. Comfortable rooms, Cool pool area to hang out. Food in hotel or many places close by. Lots of shuttle services to beaches or ferry. Other activities daily. Nice staff and diving instructors. Real chill vibes and area. Easy to connect with others.

United KingdomAnother fabulous stay at The Dearly! I absolutely love this hostel and will always choose to stay here when I return to Koh Tao :) The staff are so friendly, they offer free shuttles to the beach, lots of activities, very clean and spacious rooms rooms and friendly guests. The free breakfast is also great! It’s not a party hostel and is a 40 min walk out of Sairee Beach area so if you are looking to party, it’s not the place to be. If however, you are looking to relax and enjoy the local beaches, viewpoints, diving and snorkelling, there’s nowhere better!

GermanyThe 6 bedroom dorms looked super nice with everyone having their own beds (book that one!). However, I stayed in a 8 bedroom dorm and it wasn’t very comfortable: no curtains or something a like to get a bit more privacy. Beds were kinda shaky when someone on top moved. You kinda require to drive a scooter if you want to get there & around as it’s not so central. What I didn’t like is that the neighbours of the building were burning fires multiple days so it smelled very bad and there was lots of smoke. Also, the „view“ on the neighbours‘ houses is not nice as there is so much trash lying around everywhere, I expected a more natural „view“ in consideration of the hostel’s location. The common room is nice to have but as the street is very loud it’s not so chill there.
It has a nice vibe, the breakfast is „okay“ for a hostel. It’s quite modern and clean.

I really liked the open space in the room, even more because my roommates were really nice and social to talk to. You had enough space of your own to pack and unpack. And I love the pool.

United KingdomThe staff were really friendly, great facilities and lovely clean hostel dorms. It feels more like a hotel! The hostel can also book excursions like snorkelling for you and offer excellent PADI courses on site. My friend and I booked an open water course and had an instructor to ourselves. It was the same price as other resorts offering larger group teaching! Will be staying at the Dearly every time I come to Koh Tao now :)

SpainI loved my stay (1 week) at The Dearly! I did my open water and fun dives there, which I can totally recommend. The dive instructors are so kind and patient. The hostel itself is great, too. All facilities are spacious and very clean. The hostel is not in the main area of the city but I think the area it is in is so much nicer, because it is away from the tourist crowds & so calm and peaceful. The hostel organizes daily shuttles to beaches and sunset bars which is amazing. This also makes the hostel really social, because you meet people easily. The included breakfast is good and the pool area is also so nice. All in all I can totally recommend staying here!!

PolandThe free breakfast choice was a bit poor and I had stomach problems sometimes.
The hostel is very clean, in a good location on the island, most of the things (restaurants, beaches, etc) are a walking distance from the hostel and every day there are free beach shuttles and other attractions organised in the evening, usually for free (eg. a free taxi to a bar with a view for sunset). There's a nice pool, two common areas, a rooftop with some sunbeds. For breakfast you can choose from pineapples, watermelons, pancakes and toasts with jams. If you're thinking about doing the diving course, this is the place to go, the instructors are THE BEST you can possible imagine.

NetherlandsThere were no curtains in the room and it can be quite light. The swimming pool terrace is not very lively and sunny, it is used more for diving classes than a relax swimming pool day. Shark Bay and Freedom Beach are quite nearby, but to visit other places, restaurants and beaches on Koh Tao I would recommend a scooter since the hostel is not located very central.
One of the most clean and comfortable hostels I ever stayed at! The showers were suuuuper good and the bathroom is definitely a unique selling point of this stay. I was visiting this hostel during Christmas and they organised a lovely dinner for everyone to join. One of the most relax beaches (Freedom Beach) on Koh Tao is on walking distance.

GeorgiaThe most important thing you should be prepared to do is a bunch of chickens living around the area. They start to make loud noises in the morning at like 05:00 AM and they might wake you up and bother you. Did not bother me at all, but I'm just a hard to wake up type of person. So if you are a sensitive sleeper you might need some earplugs. Some people are really annoyed by this problem, I was not at all. The location is a bit far from all the activities. If you want to get to the pier it's about 20 mins walk. The beach on the other side is about 10-15 mins walk. I did it every day because I love to walk, but you might not, in which case you would need a bike. Beds have no curtains so it's not private and there is no suitable way to store shoes at entrance, so everyone just drops their flip-flops everywhere and in the evening it becomes a kind of a mess, one morning I woke and and couldn't find my shoes because someone kicked them like 5 meters away from the place I left them. It's not a serious problem though. They have lots of diving courses and activities but they are actually more expensive than average. You could just walk to the pier area and find courses/fun dives way cheaper than they provide. Idk why they have such a policy but it's not really related to accommodation review.
This place is just awesome. They are located outside of the crowded area. It's quiet almost all day and night (except early morning, but we will come back to that later). It's calm and quiet. They have a pool and co-working area with good WiFi and A/C. Awesome. Also common areas downstairs and upstairs, plus a whole roof to do whatever activities you want. It's really spacious, you can always find a place to sit and do what you want in a quiet environment. They have a restaurant and free breakfast for everyone staying here. Not many options to pick at breakfast, just pancakes, fruits, maybe some rice or potatoes plus coffee or tea. But still, it's included in your price which is more than affordable if you think about all the amenities they provide. They also have solar panels and their own electric system. One day there was a total power cut at the whole island. 70% of businesses were closed, you couldn't even get a coffee at any restaurant. Believe me you don't want to be stuck there as a remote worker when the whole island is just cut off the power. But this place operated smoothly with no problems. I could order a dish at a restaurant, I could work with A/C in the co-working zone with wifi and charge everything while outside it was literally impossible (yes I did try to go out and work somewhere in the morning as I usually do and I failed after inspecting all the places in the main area of the island). Every day cleaners would come, mop the floor and do your bed. Change the sheets once in a few days also. It's really clean everywhere. Bathrooms are good and they provide shower gel and shampoo for free. Staff is very friendly. They would greet you every morning, provide you any help you need. They made some documents printing for me for free when I needed it. They have various activities every day. Like barbeque, watching movies, transfers to various beaches and everything.

I had a private room and can't say enough good things about this place. Great staff, great value for money, excellent breakfast, incredible free daily activities with free shuttle, perfect location and sparkling clean. The pool was the best pool that I have ever swam in at a hotel. It was sooooo immaculately clean and large and was great for laying out and tanning. About 50% of guests end up extending their stay here and we did this as well. Great, social atmosphere without being a party hostel.
