Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

ThailandStaff were fighting among themselves one day, and were late for room cleaning another day. But overall they were very friendly and very helpful! Pet wasn't allowed indoors for meals like breakfast, proved to be too hot sometimes being stuck outside.

United KingdomIt was our second stay at the Mak Trat, the staff were excellent, helpful and attentive, Deer and Dream on reception are a great asset to the team and added to a really good experience, we stayed for 5 nights and ended up having dinner there most nights, this time the menu had been improved with all our choices available as logistically it’s not easy for any of the hotels on the island to achieve this, the cocktails are very good, breakfast was also tasty offering a good selection. We also took advantage of the reliable transport they offer to and from the speedboat at the pier, motor scooters are also available at a very fair price. The accommodation itself is excellent with beautiful large peaceful comfortable rooms with daily room service, we would not hesitate to book again, all the team speak English well especially on reception who are extremely helpful, kind and genuine. Service is critical to enhance the quality of your stay, the management have done well to achieve this!

DenmarkThe location is the only downside of The Mak Trat. It’s pretty much in the middle of nowhere, and the beach is not worth hanging out at.
Great staff. Extremely friendly and helpful. Really wonderful rooms/houses with fabulous sea view. Good breakfast buffet and restaurant. Solid wifi connection. Easy to rent scooters onsite to drive around the island. We had all dinners at the restaurant in the resort next door (Little Moon Dine and Café) - highly recommendable and really good food! Both Thai and pastas. Great coffee too.

RomaniaThis resort is simply spectacular! A dreamlike place where elegance, impeccable cleanliness, and tranquility create the perfect atmosphere for relaxation. Everything is well-organized, from the beautifully maintained gardens to the outstanding service. Although it is located a bit further from the island’s main attractions, this can be an advantage for those seeking peace and privacy. We enjoyed every moment spent here, and if we return to this beautiful island, we will undoubtedly choose this resort again!

AustriaHard to think of anything. They don‘t offer laundry service in case you‘d need it, check with locals who offer this service.
Best hotel on all the islands! We had an incredible time. The pool and its view are outstanding, the breakfast buffet is very good for Thai standards, the staff is incredibly friendly. You can write them anytime on WhatsApp. The food and drinks are also very good - try the pad thai and the passion fruit smoothie and thank me later! The rooms see beautifully decorated and spacious, with AC and a fan above the bed. This hotel just offers the best money for value :)

United KingdomNothing!!!
The best thing about this place was that you were able to bring your pet dog with you! He was allowed to roam freely and interact nicely with the other dogs there (2 dogs from the hotel and 1 street dog who he fell in love with, and a few hotel guest dogs) - sorry about Lucky peeing everywhere and thank you for understanding/not worrying about it. The dog really loved the beach & water there, and it was his first time running in the sea due to the shallow & calm waters. The food was amazing at Dinner! Everything I purchased tasted fantastic apart from the Pizza which was the only thing not great, but maybe it was because I had far too much to eat all at once, who knows - doesn't matter. The breakfast was really good, nothing over and above the standard of breakfast in any other hotel. The location was perfect being right by the sea/beach. The waters were shallow allowing you to walk or canoe far into the sea. The hotel complex was really beautiful. The swimming pool was very large and had amazing views of the sea (as the pool was at the top of the hill of the complex), but sadly wasn't deep which was a shame, but its better than nothing. The accommodation (the beach huts), were absolutely perfect! They had everything you needed bar 2 things which i already suggested them to try to do for the future (which was to put an outside fan on the roof of the sitting area of the hut, and to put a shower caddy in the external shower enclosure to hang your shower stuff on). The staff are very friendly and too willing to accommodate every need! This is really hard to find where all the staff are super friendly and want to help you and cater for your needs. They definitely would be awarded a diamond stamp from me for this high level of customer service. The staff drive you up and down the hill on a golf buggy via WhatsApp, which makes ordering the buggy very easy and also saves energy going up and down the hill, and the staff are delighted in doing so.

United StatesAs I said above: they are aiming high. The only problem is that they simply grabbed to much, especially if you compare the targeted service level to the reallity of the Koh Mak job market. They are almost ridiculously understaffed and whoever they managed to hire unfortunately have serious problems with english. Don't get me wrong everybody is SUPER NICE and lovely. It's just pretty hard to explain a little more complex concepts and get an answer. Breakfast orders coming out 30mins late, things like this. If you come here with a service level in mind that they are aiming at, then you will be frustrated I can guarantee that. On the other hand, I think they are ballancing it out very nicely with the discounted pricing until they manage to hire/train the staff. Just keep on reminding yourself about the amount you paid for the whole thing when you wait for your order. Count the bucks, enjoy the perfect view and smile :)
This is a very nice upscale resort hotel. They are definitely aiming at the luxury segment with both their offered services and with the quality of the villas and the decoration as well. Very nice on-site restaurant (prices are roughly +30% compared to other similar island places, but thats ok for a resort), blackout curtains (a VERY RARE thing on the island), very nice decor, full transportation service (50 THB per ride to anywhere on the island with the golf cart), and last but not least a VERY competitive price for all of this (at least for the beginning I guess). All the above would easily justify even a 200 USD / night price here in Thailand, even if I take the super remote location into account. But for now they are offering it for merely 100 USD. All this if you rent a bike somewhere else on the island (their rental is super expensive). If you just stay on site and eat / drink there then you first of all miss out on the island but second it's just simply doesn't worth it. Rent a bike right at the pier when you arrive with your boat (and before they pick you up), 250 THB / day. You will thank me later :)

TaiwanThe hotel stuff were all friendly and nice, but can tell it’s a very new team and had lots of room to improve. On our first day check in, we requested the hotel to book their ferry service and the private car service from Laem Sok Pier to our next hotel in Bangkok. Diring our staying, they’ve been confirmed the private car service thru line msg the total fee at 4,500 baht for the driver directly. However, once we arrived the pier, there was no car waiting for us and these conversation seems like they didn’t arranged the taxi till I called them. A lady with a tuk-tuk from their ferry service took us to meet the new driver whom happened to drive a customer from BKK to Koh Chang and he’s driving back to Bangkok. Something weird happened, the new driver said to us we need pay 2,500 baht (we paid 3,000 baht) to the hotel as commission and he will take 2,000 baht as his fee for taking us to our hotel in Bangkok. For me, I have no problem to pay the arranges fee…. but this so called service was messed up.
This resort located in a remote area but taking tuk-tuk within 10 mins can go to the busy street to enjoy food at different restaurants on this island. We stayed here for four nights. Love the sea/endless pool view from their restaurant. It’s a very chic hotel and the room was very nice and modern. Our little one love the room equipped with the smart TV, and this provides some more entertainments during evenings. We both like the balcony which is ideal for book lovers lay on the couch, or doing yoga while facing the sea view. The beach attached to this property is ideal for afternoon walking thru the low tide.

SwitzerlandWe think the hotel really suffered from Covid and is now restarting again. Unfortunately the hotel staff seems to be overwhelmed to run such a luxurious hotel. The service is unprofessional and not what you would expect from that hotel. Most of the people don‘t speak english. Especially the restaurant has to improve a lot. You often don’t get what you order and the service doesn‘t meet the desired standards. For lots of the dishes on their menu they didn’t have the ingredients (eg. vegetables). You don’t feel very welcome to eat there, what could be the reason, why the restaurant is empty quite all day including dinner time. Same with the beach bar, there was never a guest. This somehow leads to a strange, empty atmosphere in the whole hotel, even if it‘s occupied. It‘s like a 2.5 stars service in a 5 star facility, why it‘s also overprized. We are sure that if the staff is getting better educated in higher level hospitality, this hotel would be a real luxurious hidden gem and they could exploit the great potential.
The infrastructure and facility is amazing. The rooms, the lobby, the pool and quite everything else is very nice designed and clean. For us it was one of the nicest bungalow we ever stayed in: It has everything you need, has a very high quality standard, the interior design is very authentic, modern and nice and it is directly on the beach. The indoor and outdoor shower was great. We had several massages which were amazing. For easier communication we could chat with the reception on Whatsapp. The beach is cleaned every day and the view is amazing. We could rent a scooter (400THB/day) and explore the island, which also has lots of nice restaurants. The staff at the reception does their best to fullfill your wishes and is very engaged and kind.
