Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

New ZealandBeautiful rustic location. We really enjoyed the ambience of the place and friendly staff. It was also great to detach for a while. Very limited wifi, solar showers and lanterns all added to the ambience. The whale watching experience was fantastic. Thank you to Patti and all the staff.

AustraliaWe felt that the guide we had on the first day should have reported to Patti that we were unable to swim with the whales, due to the windy conditions. Our party of four paid a large amount of money ( $US 800) for this experience and were disappointed. After I spoke to Patti, we were given a compensation. Also, some snacks ( apart from bananas) would have been appreciated between meals. Would have been happy to pay for muesli bars, chips etc.
Patti was amazing. From greeting us upon arrival, to sorting a dispute over the phone chargers with another guest, she was always approachable and helpful. Due to the windy conditions on one day while we were out on the boat, we were unable to swim with the whales. Patti offered a generous discount. Special mention to Jack, our guide on the last day, whose knowledge and experience was invaluable. The kitchen staff cooked wonderful meals. Our room was quiet and peaceful.

AustraliaThe staff were all amazing. Sia in particular was incredibly helpful even helping to call the local airline to arrange alternative flights after ours was cancelled last minute. Everybody worked tirelessly and with a huge smile on their faces. The whale guides were also equally incredible guiding us on multiple successful whale swimming experiences! Patti has a great team working for her

New ZealandPlumbing (toilet) needed to be more reliable!
The food at Serenity was very good - the chefs do a fabulous job! We had one of the older bure's and it could possibly do with a little update. The outdoor bathroom was fine but the plumbing left a bit to be desired! The island is all on solar power so lighting was low - very kind to the older crowd!! The staff were great - very kind.

New Zealand-
The location is absolutely beautiful. The fale we had was open sided near the beach and was very private and comfortable. Mossie net was perfect. Staff were exceptional, Patti, Sami and crew were so kind and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. And the whale trip - cannot put into words how incredibly special this was. Swimming with these magnificent animals was a true privilege and an experience we will never forget.

New ZealandBooking tickets to Ha'apai with the domestic airline can be tricky, but Patti was able to put me in touch with someone directly to help facilitate that.
This was our second escape to the perfectly named Serenity. We were afraid we might be disappointed--only because our first visit had been so amazing. Silly us! The experience was just as wonderful as we remembered. Patti, Semi and all the staff went above and beyond to make us feel like a welcome addition to the family. Mate and the kitchen crew even set up a romantic table for two out on the beach under the stars to help us mark our 25th anniversary. The highlight of course is the whale watching/swimming. Special thanks to our guide Jack who kept us safe and found us some friendly giants who were curious enough to play with us. It is an experience we will never forget. On other days, snorkeling the reefs on both sides of the island was a real treat. So many different kinds of coral and beautiful fish just off-shore. Serenity is the perfect place to unwind and get away from it all. Yes, it takes a bit more effort to get there, but it is so worth it. We are already plotting our return!

AustraliaThe food and accom were charged in USD which has a bad exchange rate to my local currency meaning it was more expensive than anticipated, it would be good if it was charged in TOP.
Serenity is an incredible, unique place to unwind, connect with nature and breathe. We absolutely adored our stay at the island. There is limited electricity and internet but this adds to the charm of the place. The fales are cute and everything you need with a beautiful reef on your doorstep. Hearing the sound of whales breathing and playing as they come into the sheltered bay to rest as you fall asleep has to be one of the craziest sounds and feelings. I can’t wait to go back.

New ZealandGetting there can be tricky. Plan ahead, especially with the local airline Lulutai. The best option is to call them on +676 26 488 as they don't have a website or answer Facebook messages.
Patti and her partner Semi and amazing hosts and Uoleva island has white soft sand the whole way round, surrounded by stunning coral and amazing fish life. We just missed the whale season, but we snorkeled for hours around the reefs and saw literally hundreds of different species. We walked around the whole island (about 3 hours) in total isolation, not difficult when there are actually only 4 inhabitants. We kayaked, read books, napped, forgot we owned mobile phones and drank wine under shooting stars.

New ZealandWe were in a room on the windy part of the island, which at night was a problem as most shutters didn’t have locks on or mechanisms to lock. We were also without water, for the toilet, sink and shower for most of our stay. We did explain this to the lovely owner, but nothing was really done to resolve this. For this price, we would have expected a better level of offer as we stayed somewhere much cheaper before this, albeit with less good food, but as good facilities for a fraction of the cost.
The food was really good and it was great that you could use the kayak and paddleboard, seating area, yoga area and have lots of hot drinks throughout the day. Drinks weren’t too expensive and staff were very friendly.
