Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

The Hay Hotel is a good value and the service was excellent. I also loved the location near everything in the City Center.

The location is great. Close to Alsancak train,next to the pedestrian street full of coffee shops, restaurants. Great reception team. Very helpful, speaking English.

The internet service is not great, connection is very unstable.

The rooms were spacious & clean. The staff was incredibly friendly & always there if help was needed. They also helped us organize our day trips. Breakfast is very nice as well (lots of variety & great quality).

There was so much food at the breakfast buffet that our only concern is food waste, but perhaps they have found a solution for that as well. Otherwise, that would be our only suggestion :)
The hotel has a great location in the lively Alsancak neighbourhood with plenty of restaurants and bars. The rooms are quite big, which makes it nice for travelling with family as well. The breakfast buffet has plenty of options. The staff is friendly.

There is a control right next to beds with blue light indicators. They were extremely bright and we had to cover them to be able to sleep

Everything was perfect! The hotel is exactly as the photos. The room was 100% clean. Bathroom was clean and perfect. Always hot water and always working. The heating was... everywhere in the hotel (6 degrees outside) and the temperature was more than fine. I also enjoyed the best wi-fi I have ever met in hotels- fast and no disconnections.

Breakfast was good but perhaps a little limited - the included breakfast did not feature coffee for example (Turkish cay is available) or juice. Numerous coronavirus warning signs, restrictions etc in place - although these were not problematic I found it a little jarring. Appreciate this is personal choice however.
Very well located (~2 minutes' walk to the waterfront, numerous restaurants and bars nearby), clean and well equipped room with helpful staff. Recommended.

There were no toiletries in the rooms apart from soap - no shampoo or conditioner. We had to use soap to wash out hair, it was the only hotel we stayed at in Turkiye that didn't provide shampoo, conditioner and body location. Breakfast was good, but there was an additional charge for orange juice. This was also the fist time we'd been charged for orange juice in the 8 hotels we stayed at in Turkiye.
Very comfortable, large bed. Doona was made of cotton, not synthetic, which was particularly nice. Great Blackout curtains and reading lamps. Very friendly staff, great hot water and lovely shower.

Wifi is not great
First of all we want to thank Tugrul ( hopefully right spelling ) he checked us in and out and was extremely helpful when we asked for a different room. I am quite a light sleeper and the room on the 2nd floor was a bit noisy so he immediately gave us another on the 6th. Perfect. He was helpful, professional and kind. Hope his boss reads this 😁 The room had everything comfortable bed, great shower, the fact the complimentary water was replenished everyday…fantastic. Location is very good easy to get around either by public transport or on foot and there are plenty or restaurants, bars and shops nearby. Certainly stay there again if we go back to Izmir.

The room (and hotel in general) was a bit small and tight. However, taking all other positive experience, this was not a major issue for us.
Absolutely excellent location which is near to the sea, local bazars and shops, and public transportation. Very clean. Helpful and friendly staff.

Nothing not to like.
Perfect location close to shopping, restaurants, the water front and public transport. For us the location just by the Alsancak international ferry port was crucial, because we travelled with a ferry from and to Greece. The staff was very kind and helpful. The buffet breakfast was great. The hotel was clean and everything functioned fine.

Hotel is on the excellent location, in the heart of the Alsancak, near all stores, restaurants and seaside for nice walk. Very convenient for Alsancak visitors who prefer to go out and have an active stay. Clean, charming and everything was really comfortable and very good. Stuff are very kind, professional and helpful, the management of the hotel makes sure that guests are satisfied. The breakfast is nicely prepared with a variety of food.
