We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

ItalyThe room is tiny and expensive. The bathroom was full of hair (not ours). Everything was mouldy or old or ruined. We had to pay for an extra blanket and they only have hot water for showers from 5pm to 9am. They take advantage of the fact that you have little or no choice if you want to stay inside the park and put no care in the maintenance of the building.
There isn’t much choice if you want to stay inside Alishan and I must say that I don’t regret this choice because visiting the park before the crowds arrived was amazing. Also, the other hotels inside the park didn’t seem any better. I must also say that breakfast was pretty good and having to walk to a completely different building wasn’t too much of an issue. For sure I would have thought differently if it had been raining or freezing cold.

Australia(1) The villa restricted hot water usage from 5.30pm to 9am. We couldn't take a hot shower during the day or when we get up later than 9 am (2) The receptionist allowed a group of people playing cards at the lobby, which adjacent to the guest rooms. It was so rowdy, and they didn't make an effort to ask them to lower down the volume until I made a complaint to them (3) Do not buy their sun rise tour. They took us to a random location without a proper viewing platform, and it was not a good view of the sun rise. For the same price, i.e. NTD300, you could take a mini bus or a train to Zhushan Station where there is an observation desk with 100% better view (and safer) than the location selected by the tour
Location is within the national park and close to the shops.

SingaporeIt’s a shame for a hotel in the hospitality industry to have toilets than are less than ideal. There are no shower curtains or screens installed in the toilet. The entire toilet floor gets wet after showering. The hotel staff need to be retrained in providing better service. No one needs to be waited on hand and foot but this is lacking in courtesy. It’s very transactional. It’s the mindset of the hotel’s Management and not because that we are in the countryside and that’s how Taiwan people go. I can’t imagine how the situation will be in an emergency.
Location. It was near Breakfast places, some hotpot restaurants and the train station.

New ZealandPlace needs some serious refurbishing. Style and general decor rather dated. Rooms are on the smaller end, bathroom styling dated, but worked as intended. WiFi was not good during peak hrs, while also wasn't able to get any cellphone reception in the room.
It was in a location within the park. Staff were relatively helpful. Did I mention location? I think that's it. Oh I forgot, there's free area to top up water.

SingaporeExceptional hospitality from service staff, they offer packages for sunset viewing, stargazing, and sunrise viewing. As we did not manage to view the sunset and stars due to the very cloudy conditions, we were refunded the full amount. The service staff was also very engaging and helped us to take photos, offer tips for food places and much more! Truly exceptional service and we absolutely enjoyed our 1 night stay with no hiccups at all. For such good quality service at the price point we felt that it was truly excellent!

United KingdomWe were told it would be an extra cost for extra blankets if we needed them, this might annoy other people but I think it’s justified. Anyhow the bed was warm enough. The only gripe I had was with the no hot water rule in the morning, being a westerner and used to having a shower in the mornings this was very inconvenient, never mind the fact everyone is there to hike and sweat early in the morning so no warm shower after the morning hike! The breakfast was the most traditional I had while in Taiwan and not that great. It’s in a separate building near the shops in the main square and you get a token to use. Even the non foreigners were somewhat unimpressed with the offerings.
Staff were lovely, the hotel is in a great location inside the park grounds. Warm and clean room. Other reviews say the offered sunrise drive isn’t good but we went for it and was pleasantly surprised.

United StatesThe room is very old and dirty. it's smaller than what I saw from the picture. The bathroom is awful with lots of cracks on the wall. The wall and the floor were not cleaned. Worst of all, there were very bad odor coming from the pipe and the toilet that we could not stay in the bathroom for more than 2 mins. The bedsheets and duet covers had stains and looked like they never got changed. Candy wraps were on the floor by the bed. we reported this to the front desk but they didn't attempt to do anything to fix it.

MalaysiaThe rooms were a little tiny, but cosy. Water heater for showers only available after 5.30pm - but this was acceptable considering the location of the hotel.
What stood out about this hotel is the tour services they provided for sunrise, sunset, stargazing as well as firefly watching. We did the first 3 and they were very planned managed/planned. The stargazing tour was my personal favourite - don't miss this. Would come back to stay with Chinshan Villa! The staff were very polite, attentive and knowledgable. Buffet breakfast was also provided in a restaurant in the main square.

SingaporeLocation: Long flight of stairs / long walk down a road. But most of the hotels are located there, so not much choices. Would suggest that if you have luggage or knee issues, best to walk the road (instead of the flight of stairs as there were many steps). Also all the eateries are uphill. Facilities: Room as stated in the reviews by others is small (you can view from my uploaded photo, one side of the double bed is the window ; and the room is squarish), so it didn't come as a surprise. Although considering the price, I would think it should be much bigger. (The other two photos show the outside of the hotel and the reception area.) As mentioned by others as well, the price is expensive considering the room size and location, however, not much choice if you want to view the sunrise as staying in Alishan is the most convenient and accessible if you don't have your own transportation. However, a 1-night stay is alright if your main purpose is to view the sunrise and do some walking at Alishan.
Facilities: Bed was comfortable and there was 2 pillows each. Bathroom was big enough considering the small room size and clean. There was a water dispenser outside so you could take hot or cool water. Thermoflask and cups provided in the room. There was 2 chairs in the room, so you do not need to sit on the bed (especially if you need to eat your meals in the room). I requested for a ground floor room and the hotel was able to fulfill my request (because do note there were no lifts and it was a 3-storey building). Others: The hotel also organized: -sunrise tour (although I decided to buy my own train tickets to view the sunrise and didn't join) -sunset tour and star gazing tour (which I joined and they were great experiences). Would recommend these 2 tours :)

SingaporeThe hotel was old and the walk from hotel to Alishan visitor centre was steep (many steps of stair). The room was very small for 4 pax and the beds were hard. The toilet will be very wet after bathing (no shower curtain). Hot water only available between 5.30pm to 9am (but the water is hot enough for a good shower since Alishan was cold at night). No aircon or fan in the room so it's a bit stuffy. Price not cheap (all hotels in Alishan were expensive).
The hotel was near the bus terminal and Alishan train station. Near restaurants and convenient stores. The hotel provide mini-bus transfer between the hotel and bus terminal but you need to confirm with hotel in advance. We had to leave Alishan due to typhoon and all the tourists were gathered in the bus terminal to catch a bus back to Chiayi (very long queue formed and all seats on the bus were fully booked, left standing space if we can squeeze onto the bus). The hotel helped to arrange bus transfer between Alishan bus terminal and Chiayi HSR station (at a reasonable fee).

SingaporeThe room was really really small. We didn’t even have space to put our luggage in the room. The bed was relatively clean but we found multiple dead and living flies buzzing around our room. The property also charges for additional blankets, so bring something warm for yourself to sleep in. The activities are also pretty expensive and the food was underwhelming to say the least. Not returning again unfortunately.

The location of the villa was really central and convenient, and it was really value for money. The staff were really friendly and helpful as well. Special mention to the male staff (we did not manage to catch his name) that facilitated our stargazing and sunset tours h- he was really knowledgeable and we enjoyed these tours the most!

United StatesNo A/C in rooms. Cheap and not secured toilet seat, you can have actual contact while sitting on it which make each usage very unpleasant.
Location is relatively convenient. But the staff spend 5-10 minutes setting other excursions but never tell how to use the stairs outside the hotel to go to the stores and bus stops.
