We loved Civil Life, Steve was very accommodating, letting us safely store our luggage when we arrived early before check-in. There’s a lot of great history to the building which is a former 1940s Mathematics School and Steve told us all about it. A great place to stay for those who love nostalgic history. It’s also really close to all the sights we wanted to visit like the old department store and temple. Would highly recommend!

An absolutely amazing stay! The host was incredibly helpful and informative, going above and beyond to ensure our comfort. The house itself is charming, with a rich history and cozy decor that makes you feel right at home. Everything was spotless, and the location can't be beat — right in the heart of Tainan. There are lots of mosquitoes within the house… maybe it is due to too much of plant in this area… so for this who are mosquitoes attracting please be aware…

It is a very nice and warm place. Stay 2 nights here, very convenient nearby all the spot and the host very responsive and friendly.

Really beautiful and cozy property, with some beautiful handpainted (!!!) wallpapar and a sensible layout. The rooms were spotless, spacious, and had all the amenities you might want. There was a shared kitchen with some generously-provided free iced tea, water, even some food (just instant noodles, but good in a pinch). The location was stunning, tucked into a little alleyway directly next to the famous Confucius Temple in central Tainan, and we found it easy to walk to everywhere we wanted to get to in Tainan. The boss was very friendly with excellent English, and he gave us lots of helpful local tips, and even upgraded our room which was very kind. Bonus points: The garden is beautiful!!! If you like greenery, you will appreciate it just like I did, I am sure.

As it's a guest house and not a hotel, the timing to drop luggage before check-in or after check-out is limited.

The house is gorgeous, the rooms and bathroom are comfortable, spacious and perfectly clean. The shared areas and garden are perfect to make you feel at home there. The area was really quiet so we got a good night of sleep. The host provided amenities that really increase the pleasure of our stay.

We loved our stay at Civil Life in Tainan and can't think of anything to add. It's a beautiful oasis in the middle of the bustling city and Steve provides you with everything to make your stay perfect.

Good location in a small alley. Very good kitchen, you get free snacks and cup noodels. Very nice room with a balcony. Very clean shared bathrooms. They even provide you with a hair wrap towel.

Depending on the direction you're driving from, a cab might not be able to pull up outside the door as the lanes are quite small. It's easy enough to walk to the door though.

One of the most beautiful B&Bs we've ever stayed in - it's like a green oasis! The interiors are also beautifully designed and the rooms are gorgeous and spacious too. The owner gave us tons of great recommendations and has left lots of thoughtful touches, like communal snacks and drinks in the fridge; and hair bands, tooth floss and sanitary products in the bathroom. He also let us leave our luggage before and after check-in. I was a bit nervous about the shared bathroom but it wasn't inconvenient at all, and I never had to wait to use one. We would definitely come back!

The owner is really nice and answers quickly on booking messages or What's app. He showed us the building and explained the history. Everything was really clean. There is a kitchen which is convenient. Also, and I find it really rare in hotel, this place has a real personality. Next time I go to Tainan, I will definitely come back here !

everything about our time at civil life tainan was amazing. steve is the perfect host and and couldn’t be more friendly. the rooms are very comfortable, the shared bathrooms and the snack equipped-kitchen exceptionally clean. the garden is lush and just beautiful. when you enter the house relaxing jazz music is playing which makes the atmosphere even more cozy. we will definitely come back :)
