How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.

Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

At the time of booking we wanted to skip the hustle and bustle of main city attractions while still staying at the heart of Manhattan and close to several key subway stations. Hotel Giraffe checks all these boxes with flying colors. The rooms are cozy, spacious and spotless and we enjoyed the rooftop terrace very much. We especially appreciated the kind, attentive and very helpful staff who always went the extra mile to accommodate our needs and requests.

This was our third or fourth stay at the Giraffe hotel. We love coming back for its great location, which is central but still an escape from the city's hustle and bustle. The rooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable. Requests are fulfilled promptly, and the team is lovely altogether! The only thing that we were missing was a small fridge in the room to store snacks and drinks. Other than that, Giraffe is a property that will fulfil alll your needs for a city trip.

We like the morning light breakfast. the breakfast staff was very accommodating and helpful. location of hotel is good for touring the city. enjoyed the snacks as we came back to hotel. could always get coffee or tea.

Quite a bit of street noise, even on the higher floor but that's NY for ya
The room was roomy for typical NY hotel rooms, especially the bathroom counter space. The bed was comfortable. Nice hot shower. The Juliet balcony is a nice feature. It was cold in Feb., but I can imagine it's very nice in summer.

Should make guests aware of restaurant and hours downstairs. We stumbled upon it for a drink.
Clean. Nice, firm and comfortable beds, good size rooms, super friendly and helpful staff, a lot of nice touches such as fresh flowers in lobby, robes and slippers. Continental breakfast and staff helping to serve were great. Super basic but if you want more, there are options nearby.

I would have liked the option to check in early. We had my 8 month old grandson and we traveled all morning. We sat in the lobby for 2 hours.
Room was spacious and clean. Staff was very friendly. Breakfast was a nice touch. Doorman was very welcoming.

We could have used a spare blanket but didn't request one so that's on us.
The room was very well designed and comfortable. The balcony was wonderful. The chairs were great for reading and getting ready. The bed was comfortable. We enjoyed the robes.

Great location, very attentive staff. Breakfast was good and coffee/tea was always available. The fridge did not work but the new one was delivered to the room that day. It is a great choice for the hotel in NYC to explore the city.

What a wonderful hotel to stay in! The location is great to both lowet and upper Manhattan, and subway stops super close. The hotel is first class, and our room was great with a little balcony to step out and see the city. The lobby is really nice and they provide a wonderful continental breakfast. We will stay here again and highly recommend it.

The only downside to my stay was that the continental breakfast and daytime snacks could have been more varied or higher in quality.
Location was perfect. The staff were friendly and quick to respond to requests. King suite was large enough for our family of four. Comfortable bed.

It was perfectly located in a lovely neighborhood with great restaurants and easily walkable to downtown and broadway. Staff went above and beyond to make our stay terrific and were always friendly.
