How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

No soundproofing to connecting door. We could hear the people in the next room very clearly. Just relieved they were not noisy at bed time, if not it would have been bad. Ask for a room with no connecting door to the next room if you stay here. Parking also expensive but that seems to be true for all hotels in the centre. Union square is not the best location to stay. Lots of homeless people and a high police presence. we wouldn't stay in this part of San Fan again.

no breakfast possibilities (but they give you a 20% voucher for your whole stay for a breakfast restaurant near by which serves incredibly good breakfast !!) / a little bit noisy if you are located near the room service staff-room
Location directly at Union square with food and shopping possibilities close by! access to public transport e.g bus / tramway 3-5min walk! car rental possibilities 5min walk / very good for sightseeing / friendly staff!!

The room was so hot, the air con didn’t work properly. There was a bad musky smell in the bedroom due to the hotel being really old. Really thin walls, could hear a lot of noise especially the people above us walking around their bedroom.
Hotel was in a great location, right in the centre of union square, lots of shops and restaurants around. We booked a petite room but our room was a lot bigger than we expected. Quick check in which was nice after a flight.

the room we got was not really soundproof. you can hear doors banging at any time of the day and night. the AC was not working at all.

Street traffic is quite noisy in the rooms - no fault of the hotel but a little annoying

Our room was next to the service elevator.
We love the location in Union Square and its proximity to the Muni trains and BART. You can get a Muni day pass for $5 -we rode 3 times and got off at Oracle Park for the Giant’s game. The staff at The Handlery is wonderful.

We were sad to see the hotel bar was gone. And we found blood ( not ours) on one of our bedspreads. Housekeeping came quickly to change the bedding. But it was surprising that they didn’t catch that when making the bed.
I’ve stayed here many times. Good location and a nice hotel.

I little bit strange smell feels.
The hotel is situated in good place close to shops and Union Square. There we were 2 nights and was nice, clean and comfortable.

Room was outdated. Insufficient accessibility to sockets. Room wasn't very clean, Windows were very old and desperately need updating. View was terrible, ie none. Windows fully opened on the 7th floor was was very dangerous for children

Our room had no view and was rather dark. Could have had better lighting to compensate for this.
