Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsWhat I would try to improve is to get at least 1 toilet that does not share a shower as well, as people take their time when you might be in a hurry. Also add wall plugs with USB to charge for each bed. The top beds have no personal charging options.
Loved the hostel, with lots of good stuff. I stay at many hostels and what made this one especially memorable are the free activities, such as road trip to Hana, hiking, diving that are included! This adds a ton of value and a great way to meet fellow guests. I also loved that it is a real place to meet other people in the central area. All too often these days people just spend all day on their phone or laptop, and here there is a real atmosphere of connecting and getting to know each other. There's much more to love, from the staff, the cute & quiet location, nearby hiking trails, free pancake breakfast & coffee, back garden, free parking and more!

SpainThere were no space in the room for the luggage, more than floor. Only 3 bathrooms for all the people, but the timing to wait was not so long.
I really liked the people and the place. It has been wonderful. Rooms are good there is a backyard with tables and a lot of free activities to do. I am so happy to were on this hotel. Also plenty of free parking around and it is in the middle of the island, near everywhere.

You can‘t help but meet amazing new people all the time. And the best are their free trips - snorkeling, drum circle and of course the road to Hana were my favs! Thanks to everyone, mahalo 🤙🏼

SpainThere are no bed lights to keep reading at night, or shelves to put some esentials beside the bed, or hangers to hang the towell, neither lockers to keep valuable things safe. But the hostel is just renovating rooms, so maybe these innovations are still to come.
The pancakes were delicious!!! And the bathrooms super clean and comfortable.

GreeceThe location might be tricky. There are buses that can take you to the southern part of the island or Kahului, but their schedules are quite sparse.
All the staff was pleasant and kind! I enjoyed the outdoor activities around the island that were organised by the volunteers in the hostel. It's a decent choice for its price, where you can meet other people! All facilities were always clean!

United StatesThe air conditioner in my room sometimes did not work for unknown reasons. The staff, while sympathetic, were unable to help as they were not HVAC specialists. The facilities weren't super clean, but that's to be expected when sharing a few bathrooms with an entire hostel of people. Parking was a difficulty for me for the first night. Fortunately, I was able to rent a parking spot from the hostel for $10 per night, which was a really great benefit. The area the hostel is located in doesn't seem like the best area, so I was always worried about whether or not my car would survive the night.
We stayed in a queen, private room. The room was simple, fairly clean, and really unimpressive in a good way. The basics were present - it was a no-frills room. Luckily ours had a mini-fridge installed, but I'm told that other rooms didn't have such a privilege. It was also nice that towels were included!

NetherlandsThe location isn't top notch, but at least there is a nice, good quality hostel on the island.
The staff was incredibly relaxed and easy to hang out with. Sofi and Will were lovely, good fun during the evening BBQ. The fact that the hostel organises so many fun activities is awesome. Oh.. And did i mention the free pancakes?

United StatesI think it's located in a very humid area, so everything is very humid, especially the hallway where there's no ac. I was freezing at night as there was no proper blanket and ac was turned on high because of the humidity. the bed was also uncomfortable. the kitchen area was old and the cabinets didn't have doors (more like shelves) do it looked pretty gross with everyone's food. the kitchen was a bit messy too. no dishwasher either so you have to wash your dishes by hand with communal cloth which I also thought was not hygienic.
this hostel is a community! we only stayed for one night so we didn't get to take part in any of the group activities but we got to meet some people at breakfast. if you want to meet new friends from around the world - you're in the right spot. there are group activities every day - e.g. hikes, star gazing, sightseeing tours. the staff is super friendly. they make pancakes for you for breakfast every morning which is super cute. the bathrooms are very clean. ac in every room.

GermanyThe beds in other hostels often use curtains for some privacy. would have made this one even better. And you don’t have a locker or any space to store your backpack in the room.
They offered group activities every day for free, I can highly recommend the drum circle. And I really liked that there were private bathrooms to use.

United StatesThe wait for restrooms wasn't too long but it's best if you take showers in the night after long of exploring. You might have to adjust with charging your devices in coordination with other ppl around (not a huge negative tbh). No other complaints.
Great hostel experience. I really liked the free (plus tips) tours that hostel takes to Baldwin beach, Haleakala national park, snorkeling and others. It's great way for ppl without car to experience Maui. I had a car and I got free parking on the street almost every night. The beds were not hotel grade but were decently comfy, mattresses were thick. Free pancakes for breakfast (I had early morning almost every day). Beautiful backyard to relax and super helpful tips from reception staff. Fresh towels whenever you ask.
