Bathroom needed to be checked on a regular basis - one time the sink was stopped up - next time the toilet didn't flush - next time no paper towels, etc. One bathroom (there were 2 on the floor) door didn't lock.

it's a pretty typical hostile. decor and repairs are cheap, sometimes toilets don't flush and drains don't drain and there's a musk about the place but that's all rather typical for a hostile.

It's a bit of a party area, so lower levels are quite noisy. High-floor rooms are mostly insulated from the noise. Bunks are nothing special, bare bones. Only 2 toilets and showers per floor, but they are separated (i.e., four people can use the facilities at a time per floor)

Excellent location right by the action. Hostel manager very helpful with change to reservation; A/C in the room a necessity. I was fortunate to sleep on the 4th floor this go-round, which was quite insulated from the outside noise. Great customer base, too--I was too tired to socialize, but there were friendly internationals making plans and flirting.

Some of the things could do with some refurbishment and improvement, I hope they do this in the future.

Room tended to be hot until all roommates agreed to keep the windows open. Not sure why it was so hot, as weather was not hot outdoors. Beds were adequate, but mattresses could be better. Common areas are limited. Kitchen opens at 8 am which is a little late, but sometimes able to enter earlier.

Excellent location and price. Very clean restrooms, sink room, and showers. Never ran out of toilet paper, always able to find an open restroom and shower.

The place looked old and tired. Floor boards were creaky. There was a weird smell. We could hear people walking and talking in the corridor and the kitchen area (our room was right next to it). Someone's dirty towel was left in the common shower area.

Great location. Check-in and check-out were quick and smooth. Comfortable bed, reliable Wi-Fi, well-equipped kitchen area, nice staff. Some people were partying next to our room in the kitchen area - I went to the front desk to let them know and they dealt with it right away.

The air conditioner was a bit clumsy and noisy.

I liked very helpful people in the reception available 24-hours. The room (single) was quite modest but sufficient (private fridge available). . Restrooms/showers are comfortable and taken care of. All other facilities (kitchen, laundry, ironing, bicycle rent) are in place. Last but not least I liked the old rock'n'roll atmosphere with the photos of Jimmi Hendrix, the Beatles, the Doors etc.

Unfortunately the time I came there I wanted to be less of a partier and I was right above the bar/restaurant/club facing Market Street so it was hard to sleep some nights listening to the thumping coming from downstairs along with people talking until the bar closed. I was on the 2nd floor there are a total of 4 floors.

The location is excellent and there is plenty space to lounge and hang out with other guests or international volunteers at the hostel/workers.

Wonderful, helpful staff.They carried our bags to and from our room. Nice well equipped kitchen for cooking food. We were able to stay on premises after checkout time. We also enjoyed the interesting art on the walls.

Pros: Great location, clean facilities including full kitchen, easy check-in/out process, 24/7 Staff, overall great value for a solo traveler looking to be within walking distance to many restaurants and attractions in Downtown San Diego.

The room was severely cold and there was no way to feel warm. The top covering did not offer much warmth. Please offer a heater or warmer blankets.

The experience at Lucky D's was beautiful becuase of all of the lovely travelers I met. That was the highlight of my stay. The staff and travelers were respectful, open hearted and lovely. The second highlight is the amazing artistry and creativity of the space. I love walking up the stairs and seeing a large portrait of the GREAT Jimmy Hendrix. Thank you for putting so much thoughtfulness into this beautiful, magical space.

Everything went well till the last day. I wanted to book a taxi to the airport and unfortunately for some reason, my Uber app was not taking cash/credit/debit card payments and I was not able to book one. I asked for help in the reception and the person dialed me a number and gave me the phone. Due to my accent, the taxi company did not understand what I was talking about and, hence, did not register my ride. I conveyed my problem to the receptionist and he didn't help further at all. I had to get a colleague sitting in my home country to book me one otherwise I would have missed my flight. I did see him help two other women where he carried their luggage for them. A bit more help would have been appreciated.

The room was very clean and the facilities were really nice. The toilets were really clean. The kitchen is well equipped. The one exceptional thing I should point out- they remove the trash every day and one day they took out my trash can and forgot to replace it. When I reminded this in the reception, they kept it back and the person who did it actually picked up my trash, which I had simply placed near the door (due to lack of trash can) and put it into the trash can. This was very sweet and commendable on the part of the staff.

The plumbing was very old, it didn't drain easily when someone brushes their teeth or the toilet doesn't want to flush.

The sheets. Really. I have never slept with such comfortable bedding. The next night at a Best Western the sheets feel like sandpaper.

Only 2 showers for the whole floor, which wasn’t really enough in the morning hours.

The location was right in downtown, which has its pros and cons. A lot of homeless people and tents around at night. But than you’re in downtown also..

Duvet was very stained and no cover provided. People talking in nearby rooms till 0330.

Location is superb. Just a few blocks from Petco Park and the bars and restaurants in Gaslight area. Helpful staff able to give advice on local area, attractions and discounts for the zoo.
