Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe old school lift! But it is beautiful so we understand. Sf is a bit dicey these days but this location dodges most of it.

SingaporeThe only negative I had was that there wasn't milk or creamer in the room for coffee. But I found fresh coffee down at reception so was all good :)
The location of the hotel is great. Very central, close to downtown, Union Square, North Beach and Chinatown. The room was very clean and nicely decorated. Nice toiletries in the bathroom. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

NetherlandsThe single glass windows did not keep wind and sound out of the room. It was pretty noisy and cold in the room, which could not be changed easily.
The shower was hard and hot. Compared to many other hotels in San Francisco, this was a big perk.

SingaporeCheck your bill when you leave. I didn't and found out later that I was charged extra for the mini bar which didn't touch at all. Thankfully, they reversed the charge without fuss after I asked them about it but I could've done without the hassle. Also, I think I saw another reviewer mention this - but my bath gel bottle was empty also. No biggie as there was a bar of soap provided.
The room was spacious, beautiful and comfortable. The decor and furniture had a bit of a vintage vibe to it as well, which really added to the mood of the room when there was sunlight streaming through the large windows. The bed and pillows were big and felt just right, i.e. neither too firm nor soft. Finally, I arrived in San Francisco early in the morning and I was really glad the hotel let me check in early! The location also seemed central enough that it wasn't a problem calling Ubers to visit different parts of the city.

United StatesNot the hotel's fault, but car break ins are a huge problem here, and even in a $45 per night parking garage there isn't enough security to really keep your car/belongings safe
Good value, very clean, interesting building

SwedenI really miss not having the option of getting breakfast at this hotel. In their sister hotel in Culver City, breakfast there is a highlight.
Clean, nice location, easy check-in, nice rooms and beds.

United StatesThe room we stayed in with a king bed was not well-suited for such a large bed. It was hard to get around the room without bumping into the bed and the bed frame. It would have made more sense to put a queen in that room. Lots of little things that added up to a decent, but not great, stay. Only one towel hook, no phone in the room for convenience, TV which didn’t allow for personal streaming, an Oriental rug in the bathroom that is beautiful but not practical for cleaning between stays, no breakfast hours, an elevator that was inconsistent and seemed to get stuck (we had to take the stairs down from the 7th floor twice).
The aesthetic was on point, throughout. The lounge felt intimate and the cocktails were delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful. The bed was very comfortable. Great location, close to some great breakfast and lunch spots, and only a short walk from BART.

United StatesA little noisy but it’s expected in the city. Bar/restaurant closed on Mondays and Tuesdays so I didn’t have an opportunity to go in.

SwitzerlandThe sink in the bathroom is literally the size of a post stamp and partly obscured by a shelf. Try to wash your face or have a shave. The water will be splashing all over the floor.

United KingdomRoom was pretty small and designed to look good but not necessary work that well. For example, in order to make coffee, I had to move the coffee maker from the stylish shelving to the floor in order to access power. The coffee capsules provided made very weak coffee that I ended up topping up with the instant sachets I carry for emergencies. There was no closet and limited hanging space, which was partly obstructed by a huge basket of snacks for sale. The fridge was similarly filled. If you are on a long trip like me and therefore have a lot of belongings, you might want to ask if snacks and drinks can be removed. However, the above are relatively small points and overall I enjoyed my stay and would recommend this hotel - maybe just bring your own coffee pods, or ask reception if they have hidden supplies of stronger ones!
It's an old hotel with an elevator of historical significance (and a pace to match!) but it's been relatively recently refurbished to be stylish with a quirky edge. Comfortable bed, bathrobe provided, cute bistro style table and chairs in the window. Staff were chilled but welcoming. The whole place felt like it had a unique personality which I assume is very San Francisco, rather than just an anonymous corporate hotel that could be in any city, and was in a pretty good location to explore the city. The newly opened bar seemed nicely buzzy but not too noisy or disruptive - wish I'd had more time to enjoy it.

United KingdomThe hotel has a very old vintage lift - it’s super cool! BUT was out of order or not working 2 days of our stay. We had to walk the stairs to the 6th floor. The hotel is in a road with a tunnel at one end and it didn’t always feel safe walking through there.
The hotel is quite trendy and I like the interior design.
