Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesWould have liked a door that stayed locked between the hotel and cafe. And needs some updates on some of the furnishings and the hallway carpeting.
Very nice staff, great coffee in the cafe, great location, comfortable and nice sized room.

CanadaI could hear people talking from another room in the morning so perhaps the sound-proofing could be better but no problem at night. The view of the parking lot from the balcony on the first floor could have been better.
Perfect location, right by the cheeseboard and in north berkeley. The decor was cheerful and didn't have the sterile feel of the new high-rise hotel in Berkeley that I had previously stayed in. Good amenities: robe, hot chocolate and good quality tea, microwave. The room and bathroom were clean and more spacious than I expected, with a spacious balcony with chairs and a table. The bed was comfortable. There was a useable desk for working. The staff was personable and helpful.

United StatesThe room was very modern and it had a great lay out of all the amenities. The shower was a nice walk in style with big glass door. It is right by a nice grocery store and this really good pizza/bakery. Very popular spot with very tasty pizza and bakery items. They had a live band playing the night we were there and was a great atmosphere.

United StatesOur first room had a split shower hose and we could not shower. I called the front desk and they promptly brought up new key cards to switch us to another room (excellent customer service). The hotel felt a little dated in general.
We stayed at the hotel because it was directly across from Chez Panisse, where we had dinner earlier in the evening.

United StatesThe 1st floor hallway seemed a bit dingy.
We enjoyed the upgraded room with a patio. The location was excellent, with unlimited options of restaurants and shops. A lobby area would be nice, but the bistro is a very good addition. Over-all, we enjoyed our stay and would gladly return in the future.

IrelandIt would have been nice if the café had more vegan options
Very nice and comfortable room about 10 minutes walk from Downtown Berkeley BART station. Staff were all very friendly, a nice vibe in the café in the morning as well as free coffee tokens. Microwave and fridge worked well so we were able to get food from the wonderful supermarket next door. Shower and bathroom were clean and comfortable and everything we could possibly think of was provided.

United StatesIt would be nice to have a view but it's Berkeley, after all, and it is a city so there are no real viewsl. The rooms could be bigger but they aren't and everything you need is in the room anywayl
Well located, rooms are very well-equipped. Beds are very comfortable. Shower is nice and has all amenities There is coffee or tea in the room. There is no view from the window but there is a nice patio areal The TV works well and there is also a desk area. Nice coffee shop connected to the hotel

United StatesI’m not confident that someone had actually cleaned the room before we arrived. The bed looked like someone took a nap on it (ruffled sheets and makeup left on the pillow case) and there was a lot of hair and stuff in the shower. Also, there is NO parking. You have to use metered parking on the street and the meter maids are ruthless. At 8:55am they were literally waiting behind our car for 9am to ticket us, but luckily we were there to feed the meter. If we had been even 1 minute late, we would have been ticketed.
The staff, location, and value were wonderful. The coffee was really delicious and the room was spacious. The hotel was quiet and comfortable.

ItalyThe bed is European size not American, so it's a little bit smaller than most of the hotel beds. No coffee machine (but you can get free coffee at the bistro)

United StatesA huge disappointment was the disappearance of the $8 parking daily rate thanks to the new owner of the parking lot next door. The lot is closed. If you drove here, this means you are subject to hunting for limited parking at meters or spots that are only for 2 hours -- a parking ticket is $43! We were lucky, spending a Sat/Sun here, because Sunday is a free day at parking meters . . . also, most student are away for the summer June, July and up until mid-August. It will be very challenging finding street parking when the students return. Major parking lots are a few blocks away in downtown and are not cheap -- and it's not clear to me if overnight parking is allowed in those garages. A minor annoyance was the laxity of housekeeping. We had a towel that was more rag than towel hung neatly over the bar to disguise how bad it was until one of us, soaking wet, pulled it off to use it. There were multiple long hairs on the bathroom floor that were from a previous resident. I cleaned those up with a damp tissue. And there was a pitiful shower wand clearly meant to conserve water -- ok, we understand that -- but even so, the drain was clogged and by the end of a shower, one is standing in an inch or so of water.
Location, location, location! That's what SenS Berkeley is all about. Easy walk to all of North Berkeley delights, downtown Berkeley, the CAL campus. We also like meeting with the literary/artsy group that regularly takes coffee and such in the hotel's cafe. Although I have a bit of a diatribe of things that went wrong, we still like this little hotel and its friendly staff and its fantastic location.
