Having to pay $8/day for parking at the Bank of America lot next door.

Great location practically across the street from Chez Panisse and adjacent to upscale grocery store. You enter through the bakery; so expectations were not high; but we were very pleasantly surprised by the room. Very modern design, large comfortable bed, spacious bathroom, balcony with seating, mini fridge, microwave, desk, etc. Also nice amenities: including robe, umbrella, large flashlight, etc.

Small and cozy hotel but very clean, excellent customer attention and exceptional location. At the check in they gave us two coupons for a free cup of coffee. The coffee was delicious and it was served in a big large cup. We had pastries and bagels which were very good too.

The location was surprising and different. It felt cozy and private. The staff were very helpful and friendly. I liked the location, just on the edge of downtown, so it felt less hectic and had great restaurants. The clientele in the Bistro were colorful and interesting. An older gentleman softly played jazz guitar and regale his friends with stories about the history of music in the area from jazz to bluegrass, naming all the people he knew. He said he came in every am, so obviously feels comfortable there. I grew up in Berkeley and was visiting. I'm also a musician and familiar with the history of the people he knew. I really enjoyed staying at the hotel and getting that cool Berkeley feeling again.

Cleanliness not up to our standards: the floor was sticky and the rug dirty. There were food bits on the floor. No parking available although advertised in the description. Weird entrance always going through a cafe to access your room. Balcony area with view on a supermarket parking lot and broken screen door. Walls are PAPER thin. Could hear the entire conversation in the next room. Bed was extremely soft and uncomfortable. Overall did not enjoy our stay for the price paid.

Good location right on shattuck with restaurants and cafes. Walking distance to Berkeley campus and the bart station to SF.
