Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesMisleading description
Breakfast was good. The description of the location is misleading. The hotel is not on a beach, much less on beach front.

United KingdomNothing much really - the shower's water temperature was a bit temperamental. Although the 6th floor was great for views, its downside is that it's directly under the breakfast area on the 7th floor, so from around 6.30-7.00am there was lots of scraping of chairs on the floor from above - at least you won't need to set an alarm! :-)
The hotel is a 5-minute walk from the harbour where the cruises leave from. We were on the 6th floor and had a wonderful view of the sea/karst scenery. The town is a 10-15 minute walk away which suited us as our location was quieter than the busy town. Also, there is a HUGE construction/development programme taking place in Cat Ba which means that many of the town's hotels don't have a sea view for the foreseeable future. Spacious room with 2 comfortable double beds, fridge/mini bar, safe, kettle. Excellent wifi. The host Trung is fantastic! He did everything possible to make our stay memorable including some welcome flowers and fruit. Nothing was too much trouble for him including arranging our welcome/leaving transport and an unforgettable full-day cruise of Lan Ha Bay/Ha Long Bay with Cat Ba Green Trail Travel. There's only 2 rooms on each floor and they're separated by the lift shaft so there's no internal noise from other guests. Motorbike hire is 120k dong per day with helmets. The breakfast, while not having great variety, was more than adequate. We loved our stay here and would happily return.

United KingdomSuper friendly hotel. Fantastic views across the bay. We booked a sea view room. Location is a 2 min walk to the harbour where most of the cruise boats depart. Quieter location than main town, with taxi or 20mins walk to main town. Breakfast is served on the top floor overlooking the bay. Tasty breakfast with either eggs or pancakes. Hotel were very kind to give us a late checkout. Would recommend.

Nice quiet location away from the busy area. Comfortable rooms and friendly staff. Relaxing stay.

LithuaniaWider variety of breakfast would be nice. Especially if you stay longer that few nights.
The first our hotel in Vietnam where room photos on booking.com met the reality :). Room cleaned every day, friendly staff, very quiet location. Sure you need a taxi to get to the city center, but thats worth to pay of having quiet sleep in the mornings.

AustraliaWe loved our stay at Dung Lai 173 Hotel. The staff went out of their way to make sure we had a great stay and everything we needed. It was a little out of town so we were able to avoid the tourist crowds, and only a 10 minute walk if we wanted to eat or do other activities. Highly recommend this hotel if you're looking for somewhere a little quieter, and with very friendly service!

Spotlessly clean and we liked the location and view from our room was amazing. The walk around the area to the port was nice.

GermanyBreakfast could be more diverse. But it was good.
Room was very good, with beautiful views and small balcony. The owner and his family were super kind and not pushy at all with bookings of activities as I could read in other reviews.

NetherlandsNothing really
Great view over the bay! The room was very spacious and got cleaned/tidied every day. Nothing too fancy but had everything you need. During TET it was very quiet and the staff was super friendly and helped us wherever needed. It is not right “in town”. We rented a motorbike so it was only a few mins away but maybe if you walk it’s a bit further. The hotel has a little dog which is the cutest thing ever! She’s very cuddly and playful, we loved her. Very good value for money and would totally recommend when staying in Cat Ba.

AustraliaWe stayed over the Christmas period. It is a lovely family run hotel. The family went above and beyond to make sure our stay was as pleasant as possible, they gave us an extra heater, rented us a scooter for cheap, did our laundry (40,000vnd/kg + 30,000 for drying), and gave us lots of advice and tips about activities and food around the island. We’d definitely recommend and stay there again!

United KingdomLimited selection for breakfast if staying a few days. Lower and rear rooms don’t have bay view. 20 minute walk to main town, which we enjoyed, but might not be for everyone.

IrelandWe had a fantastic stay at Dung Lai 173. The hotel is run by exceptionally friendly, kind and accommodating people - they helped us with absolutely everything we needed which made our time in Cat Ba such a good experience. They even helped me with a minor medical issue and went as far as taking me on their scooter to help me with the process - they really went above and beyond! Our bedroom was fantastic and amazing value! Very spacious and extremely comfortable - we slept excellently every night! The view of the sea from our bed was absolutely gorgeous!!! The room is immaculately clean. The breakfast was great - delicious pancakes with fresh fruit! The hotel is about 10-15 minute walk from the centre of town (which wasn't a problem at all for us). It's less than 2 minute walk from the port which was very convenient when for our boat tour. The hotel organised the boat tour for us at a very good price. Laundry service was great value and super quick service. The detergent also smelled really nice!!! The hotel organised scooter rental for us too - they did absolutely everything to make our stay brilliant!

ChinaTransport to the main town area can be booked via the desk. We found that Grab was not great and that taxi drivers dont turn up unless you have a local phone number (which we did not). In the end we got bike rides.
Location is very near the port - where you can catch a boat ride to see the bay. Friendly people and very helpful.

United StatesNice new hotel with fantastic view. The staff is very friendly and the hotel is impeccable. It is away from te main drag but provides a good opportunity to explore the town walking. There is a bit of a hill to arrive at the main center but it is a lovely walk with views.

GermanyThe hotel is very clean. The view from the room is fantastic. The bathroom has no separation between shower and toilet so when you shower often the entire bathroom area including toilet is wet. Just close the toilet seat. Something we could live. Location wise it is ok, not directly at the hustle bustle of the city center, but sufficiently close enough. However, it still requires a bit of walk, perhaps 10-15 min. When it is dark or with small children, a taxi ride is better. The hotel owners don’t speak English, but we managed to communicate efficiently with Google Translate. He helped us with various planning and organization, book trips and bus rides back to Hanoi. Everything worked efficiently. The breakfast was monotonous, only 2 options: egg and pancake. But fresh fruits were always part of that. For a family-run small scale hotel, I really think they are doing the best and for the price level, this is quite sufficient.

BruneiThe beds were a little on the hard side, as is common in Asia.
The view from the room on the 6th floor is just beautiful and the hotel is a few minutes walk from the jetty. It doesn't take long to walk the km to the shops and restaurants of Cat Ba. The owners are super helpful and arranged our boat trip and bus to Hanoi.
