Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

I booked this place mainly because of the pool but it wasn’t functioning. They had a board saying from today it’s under renovation. There’s no date on it, I saw the same board the whole time I stayed. This isn’t published online or told earlier. This was so disappointing
The staff are quite friendly and very helpful. Rooms and toilets are clean and good.

This place is in a perfect spot for exploring. The breakfast was seriously good, I was stuffed every morning. Plus, they were super helpful and let me store my bags while I took a quick trip. Two thumbs up for the awesome service. Would definitely stay here again!

Hot water at the showers (just dont forget to switch it on) cozy beds, big big lockers, crowded but good. Free beer from 7 to 8 PM and a free guide of the city, everyday I hope the jacuzzi is ready because when I stayed there they were working on it 😂😂🫣

Hanoi Buffalo Hostel is the perfect place if you’re looking for a lively atmosphere in the heart of the Old Quarter. The dorms are clean and comfortable, and the pool and free beer hours add to the fun. What really stood out was the super helpful staff—they’re always ready with local tips, directions, or just a friendly chat. Awesome location, great vibes, and a solid choice for budget travelers!

The pool was closed throughout my stay.
Free walking Tour every morning at 10 which had good Infos and interesting places - of course also a few stops to spend money (Café, Temple with entrance fee)

Had a great time with Bufalo! The breakfast the best I’ve had in Vietnam and the stuff were super nice and helpful. We were on the 4th floor though with no elevator :(

The rooms were questionably clean. The bathroom is shared between males and females and gets quite dirty during the day, although it does get cleaned. The washtable was always completely wet and dripping water on the ground. The lockers in the room are quite difficult to use and set off an alarm when not used correctly. Pool is currently being converted into a jacuzzi so not available
The breakfast is great for a hostel. Location is middle of old quarter and everything is very walkable. What really stood out for me are the staff that are always willing to help and have a chat. Also the free walking tour is a huge bonus.

Actually nothing
Amazing location, you can literally walk everywhere! They had free stuff everyday, walking tour, pub crawl, breakfast, beer so it was super easy to meet people with a chill social vibe (not a party hostel). Free water refill, ATM right outside and felt very safe staying here. Our friend we met there, hostel jumped around Hanoi and said this was their favourite. Would defo recommend!

Could be a little cleaner
Beds are comfortables, room for 6pax was okay, with bathroom inside. Breakfast is simple but more than enough. Very social hostel with a lot of activities, and great location

This is an awesome social hostel with great facilities and an absolutely perfect location right in the centre of things. Super happy with the room I was given, comfortable and spacious - and there was so much to do that I felt I really got to enjoy the most of Hanoi!

The social areas felt sometimes a little bit small most of venue is just tables and chairs the one area out back in nice but small and often full very quick
Great location, awesome free breakfast, beer happy hour can’t complain. Quite a social hostel but not party. Staff were very helpful and kind.
