Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

One of the best hostels so far i have stayed in 1 month in vietnam. friendly staff, always smiling. i forgot my beloved shoes on the bus from cat ba to ninh binh, Alex contacted the bus company to send them to hue for me the next day. thank you very much.

I have been traveling in Vietnam for almost 3 months, this is the best hostel I have ever stayed, cheap, clean room, very comfortable mattress. The staff are very friendly and always smiling. Every time I enter the hostel I see Alex's friendly smile. He is the best.

Our room was clean, but had no view and a bit funky smell(probably from the moisture). In order not to have too high expectations it's worth knowing that the entire Cat Ba beachfront is subject to a huge land reclamation project - if you get the sea view rooms this is what you will be looking out over.
Good hostel. Nice vibe and very friendly staff. Good price. Rooftop bar 🍻 The included breakfast was tasty (but did not include any drinks)

Great location right in the centre of town. Amazing views from the rooftop pool over the bay. Staff nice Alex recommend us many good thing to do in catba.

Most of staff were super helpful, except for a night-shift receptionist who didn't really want to help, unprofessional, and knew almost nothing. Another volunteer guy was also rude to me.
The room was very clean. The hotel has great facilities and great style. It is also very new.

Didn't respond to messages through booking.com. The waterfront by the hotel is a construction site, as is most of Cat Ba - not a problem the hotel itself, but the current state of the island.
Clean, spacious, comfortable rooms. Good restaurant and bar downstairs with a pool table. Good location near the beaches. Helpful staff. Everything seems brand new - maybe it was built recently.

The staff Alex was very nice and solutions. I was feeling bad in the day we arrived and they let us check-in earlier, provided some medicines and asked for the rest of the stay how was I feeling. Huge thanks!

There are building a new resort in front of the hostel (the hostel is/was first line beach and there are works to extend the area to build a resort), basically making hr island bigger there... a lot of noise during the whole day (starting at 6am). Most of the staff were nice, but it was a guy at the reception during the night time very rude and not willing to help (we extended one more night and he told us we needed to move to another room, I asked if it was possible to stay in the same, he said no without checking if it was possible. The day after the person in the reception in the morning said it was possible). I asked him the first day for trips and he just didn't bother to give me info (while anyone in Vietnam is super kind and willing to help and to sell you things).
The location was in the center and with "ocean" views (ignoring the ships to extend the island). The room big and nice, bed comfortable.

the shower in the bathroom makes all the floor wet and it's inconvenient for using the bathroom after someone has taken a shower, so slippery. There's no dry spot to leave or hang wet towels to dry
the comfy beds are the best, also everything works with a tech bracelet which is very handy.
