Real Bookers. Real stays. Real opinions.
Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

GermanyDon't mind if something is not working, with us the TV (couldn't be repaired in our 3,5 days) and the bathroom fan (repaired within one day), one bed sheet missing.
The young Enlish speaking manager woman was very friendly and helpful e.g. brought the linen to our room and organized our boat day trip and the bus transport back to Hanoi. And the breakfast in the cave cafeteria (coffee/tea, scrambeld eggs, toast) is just unique. All thumbs up!

United KingdomBed linen and towels had dirty sports when we checked in. We found ants in our breakfast 🥴
We booked and checked in very late in a evening but staff member was there anyway and helped us with everything. They also have all amenities like laundry service and bike rent service , which was really helpful . The windows overlook a quiet street. You are not bothered by construction sites which are everywhere in Cat Ba now.

The location is good. The rooms are good value for money. They have the best deals on day tours and bus tickets.

NetherlandsThe breakfast could be improved. We arrived at breakfast, with noone there, food out on the counters, and a rat in between. Simply unhygienic. Having someone there for 2 hours while the food is out should not be a problem to keep the rats away.
Solid for the money. The staff is wonderful.

Italynothing worth mentioning considering how reasonable the price is
It is located very conveniently in the center of the town (not the island, many people get regrettably their accommodation in the middle of nowhere). The lady at the desk is very sweet and helpful, she changed my room without any fuss from one with a small window to one with large window and view. The price you pay per night for a room with private bathroom, is the price you pay for a Starbucks coffee, but here the coffee is given for free with the free breakfast. I wish they had a vegan option, ie cornflakes, but I guess they will give fruit jam with the bread instead of the eggs if you ask for it. If you are vegetarian or vegan the Budda Belly restaurant is the best in town, very reasonable prices, huge portions, 15 min walk, then also the Celery, 5-10 min walk, not bad also. I had a day trip booked at the Victor Charlie for discounted prices, they are very helpful in giving informations and I had a bus booked all the way to Cao Bang, which I wouldn’t know how to find on my own, and the price was good!

IndonesiaNo kettle in the room to make coffee but they are very pleasant to let me go to the kitchen and boil some water. Some leaking water from room/ bathroom next door to our room and in .my last night staying water dripping from the roof. We asked to get the room sweep and mop but none came We can hear people's activities in the corridor and room next door at some points but still manage to sleep well
The staff was very supportive. I had a scooter accident and they were so helpful. Instead of 3 nights, we extend to 6 nights. So i can have a good rest. The elevator was very helpful. Breakfast was standard but quite nice. They offer great tours to Halong Bay and the cheapest in town. All my friends agreed it was worth every penny. We asked to move because our room was next to the elevator and they let us.

VietnamThis has been noted by others. You may want to bring earplugs because the pipes in the bathroom have no cladding so you can hear when the rooms above you use their bathroom i.e. it sounds like the water ends up running through the pipes in your bathroom too and maybe it does. Also classic Asian bathroom where if you use the shower you'll have a wet floor for the rest of your stay - it was quite spacious though and if you close the door the noise isn't so bad.
It was easy to find. the staff were very friendly and helpful. Good location if you're not fussed about a beach view. Nice and handy to the waterfront and convenience stores etc. The breakfast was good too and the room was spacious and even had hangers in the wardrobe.

GermanyThe bathroom was a little bit smelly and you have the feeling it never completly dries. But it is still ok.
The location was really good, central of Cat Ba Town. Easy to reach from Hai Phong. Close to the Hostel are many good food options and small grocery shops available. The breakfast is a Bahn Mi and Coffee/ Tea at the little food stand in front of it with vegetarian options as well (Egg/ vegetarian Bahn Mi). They offer Bus tours and Tours through the Bay/ Island, which are very good. The bed is very comfortable

United KingdomPayment is by cash only. We struggled to get any hot water during our stay. You can clearly hear people in the rooms next to you through the walls but thankfully this didn’t disrupt us sleeping. Breakfast was very bad on the first morning, they didn’t have any Banh Mi as advertised so we had 2 slices of white bread, with cold egg and fried veg which had clearly been fried with sausage meat (which they also offered) so it tasted of sausage and meant that as a vegetarian the breakfast was not very edible! They had Banh Mi on the second morning which was much better but still very basic. The accommodation did laundry for us (handwashing) but unfortunately some of clothes came back still smelling unclean and still had stains on them. They offered to wash some of our clothes again which we took them up on but unfortunately some items still smelt unclean after the second wash so after some negotiation they offered us a refund for these items which was kind. As the boat tour was very busy they ran out of dry bags for us to use when kayaking and the toilets got blocked very easily and very early in the day.
Basic room and bathroom with good Wi-Fi. Good location to be able to access everything on Cat Ba Island. The host is very helpful and speaks good English. We were able to check in early. We did the boat tour they advertise which was good but very busy! The tour did not have as many vegetarian food options for lunch but the food was still good.
