Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

SwitzerlandWe are a couple visiting Franschhoek for the first time, and our stay at L’Auberge Chanteclair was truly unforgettable. We chose this hotel for its ideal location—just a short distance from the village centre, yet perfectly tucked away in a quiet and peaceful setting. We visited at the end of April and found the atmosphere serene, with only a few guests, which made our stay even more intimate. Our room was beautifully furnished and tastefully decorated, offering a warm, romantic ambiance. One of the highlights was having direct access to the main terrace, where we enjoyed a glass of wine while taking in the breathtaking mountain views in complete tranquility. Alan and Yvonne were wonderful hosts who made us feel incredibly welcome. The breakfast each morning was simply amazing—fresh, generous, and delicious. It alone is worth staying for! Alan also shared fantastic tips on local places to visit, helping us make the most of our time in the region. Thank you, Alan and Yvonne, for making our stay so special. We couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to Franschhoek!

We had such a wonderful stay with Allan and Yvonne in Franchoek! The grounds and gardens were beautiful, such a lovely setting for chilling by the pool in the afternoon, and it was great being able to walk into town. The cottage we stayed in was peaceful and clean. Breakfasts were a real highlight - we loved the scrambled egg with smoked trout! Allan was a brilliant host, giving us tips on things to do in the area and even planning our road trip to Cape Town for us with some amazing stops on the way!

IrelandI liked everything about it.
The hosts were so helpful and friendly. The setting is amazing, with fabulous views of the vineyards and mountains. The breakfasts were so good, best fruit combinations, yogurt, homemade granola I’ve ever had. We stayed in a really cute cottage with our own veranda, near the lovely pool.

What a beautiful, friendly and perfectly located hotel! Chanteclair is a small vineyard and orchard, set in the most beautiful location surrounded by mountains, 5 minutes drive from Franschoek. The gardens are beautiful and our room was comfortable and clean. Alan, Yvonne and the team were wonderful hosts and made us feel completely at home. Breakfast on the terrace was perfect. What a wonderful stay: would definitely recommend.

Second time staying at l’Auberge Chanteclair and I can say the this place doesn’t disappoint at all! Everything is always perfect. I am obsessed with the mountains views. The tranquility. The breakfast is beyond words, with homemade food. The staff is super friendly. Yvonne and Allan (the owners) are so kind and give the best advice! They know Franschoek as if they made it - and also give recommendation for other cities in the country. I will come back again and again!

United KingdomThe rooms are fairly simple and are on the smaller side. The bathrooms are also slightly outdated. Everything functioned fine in the rooms but I would say the communal areas and grounds are the main attraction.
We had an amazing stay at this property. The views are exceptional and the staff and hospitality we experienced were incredible. Alan in particular was so welcoming and made us feel at home straight away. The breakfasts they put on are amazing, fresh juices, amazing homemade cereals and cooked breakfasts. The coffee was also amazing. I would throughly recommend this property.
