Our Japanese style room was exceptional. We had a gorgeous view of Tanigatake from the room and from the in-room onsen bathtub which we could open the door for the feel of outdoor bath. The facilities are old fashioned but functional and comfortable. We liked futon bed and lofty down comforter. The dinner and breakfast were unreal. The chefs created magical meals from local and seasonal ingredients. I should not forget to mention the incredible staff and Okami San, the owner.

+ The staff were very friendly and helpful.
+ We pre-ordered the sukiyaki for dinner. It was absolutely delicious.
+ The rooms were spacious and comfortable.
+ Private Onsen is available. But you will need to shower at the public onsen first.
+ The grounds were beautiful. A very relaxing stay.

Wow! It was fantastic. The staff were lovely. We got to choose from a variety of patterns of yakata (robes) which was really special. The room (with an ensuite toilet and sink!) was massive. We were provided with 5 futons so we could pile them on top of each other, great for westerners used to softer beds. This made it comfortable. The homemade tiramisu we ordered on arrival was so tasty. The cup challenge for free juice was fun. And best of all, the private onsen experience! We booked 2 time slots (as it was quiet), one in the stone bath and one in the wooden bath. We loved both, but the stone bath was nicest.

Dinner and the fact that clothing was required in certain baths were plus items. The staff was helpful and friendly. The baths were wonderful, but the grounds and common areas were quite neglected, in my opinion.

I liked everything! But you should fast at least for a week before checking in - breakfast and dinner are just beyond compare ! My primary goal was skiing, and this location is very convenient to cover nearby ski resorts in Gunma and Niigata.

Our fourth stay here and we are still absolutely smitten with this place. Comfortable rooms, wonderful staff, delicious food, and the best baths in the prefecture, all wrapped up in a cozy, creaky, glowing inn nestled deep in the woods.

I loved everything. From the moment we arrived the staff treated us very nicely and politely explained everything about the property. They provide yukatas, bathing suits and slippers, so you get to experience the whole traditional japan.
Dinner and breakfast are simply amazing, lots of courses and everything tasted delicious.
While you’re having dinner, they set up your futons so you have the bed ready when you return to your room.
The outside onsen is wonderful.
I honestly can’t recommend this place enough, just a 10/10
Shuttle from train station. Friendly staff. Traditional experience. Provided with yukata, swimwear and slippers for stay. Food was beautiful. Onsen are exceptional. Scenery is unbelievable.
This onsen was a lot bigger and busier than we thought it would be. They don't show it in the pictures but it is quite a large resort with multiple buildings and even though we went in the "off season" there were still a lot of people around. This isn't necessarily a negative thing - it is just that we thought we were going to a secluded little ryokan in the mountains and there ended up being a more other tourists there than we anticipated. The food and onsen were still really good, and the service was great as well.
Rooms in traditional Japanese style. You can select a Yukata design when checking in. The staff were very nice and personable, and the dinner with several courses was delicious. The outdoor onsen are beautiful, and you can use them until midnight. It was a great experience and one of the nicest things we did in Japan.
The onsen was amazing! Different temperatures to move between and one very warm spot, nice! Beautiful surrounding, like an anime fairytale! Pretty yukatas! Nice room with good view and warm tatami floor! The futon was warm and the blanket super fluffy!! The gift shop clerk was so nice and helpful, helped me to buy the right size yukata and color! Simple explanation from station to shuttlebus by photos and also good detailed explanation of facility at check-in.
Traditional ryokan with great onsen in secluded nature area (mixed onsen; Yukata and special bathing suites provided). Great place for relaxation. Very attentive (English speaking) staff and delicious food. Free transportation from/to train station works well.
We stayed for total of 2 nights in this beautiful Ryokan in Minakami, food was elaborately prepared and beautiful. the 2 onsen baths available were well maintained and comfortable. In terms of hospitality, the staff were especially accommodating - they even ferried us to local train station from door to door. futon beds were thick and comfortable, amenities were also plentiful and they were more than willing to provide extra at your request. One of the most value for money experiences :)
