This was a truly exceptional place to stay and a magnificent experience of traditional hospitality. The room and outdoor onsen were amazing and the staff and service was on a different level. The meals were both delicious and an experience. The beautiful falls and springs were right there, and a nice walk down to the remarkable Site of Reversible Destiny (a cross between a park and a modern art installation). I do recommend parking in the lower lot and getting picked up by the shuttle if you are driving yourself—the final stretch is a single-lane two-way mountain road where you have to negotiate passing other cars, and even though it's got plenty of mirrors, I was glad to let the hotel's experienced driver navigate it for me. I will add that at least during my stay (end of March with cool weather), there were absolutely no issues with bugs as described in some other reviews.

Juhachiro was extraordinary! I don't think I knew what to expect when I booked and the overwhelming welcome I received on arrival made me a little nervous. I'm not used to staying at hotels anywhere near this nice! The staff were all fantastic, very kind, and even helped me with some travel planning out of what felt like genuine concern (due to the weather). The breakfast (buffet) was quite likely the best I've had in Japan. The room itself was large, very comfortable, and smelled absolutely amazing (fresh tatami). The onsens baths (two each indoor and outdoor) were so very good; quiet at the time was there and beautiful. I especially loved the outdoor ones after the snow.

Historical hotel next to the river with a nice onsen. They also have a nice outdoor onsen that has a view of Gifu Castle! My daughter and I also reserved the hot stone sauna which was super nice. Totally recommend reserving that and you get a huge discount if you order dinner at the hotel. Dinner was in a private room and the rooms were spacious overlooking the river.
Experience culture authentically with a stay at these traditional Japanese-style accommodations. Sleep on the floor (on a futon roll) in a room furnished with tatami flooring and sliding doors. Guests can often expect access to a communal bath, plus a complimentary Japanese garment called a yukata.
One of the best Japanese ryokans I've stayed in. Conveniently located near to Nagoya yet secluded enough to enjoy a couple of days away from the crowd. The private onsen rooms have a to die for view of Nagoya and everything is excellently run and with wonderfully attentive staff. The Yoro park is a bonus where you can enjoy nature walks.
