Absolutely fantastic stay — and the Italian restaurant is world-class! This hotel was truly wonderful, but what made the experience unforgettable was their incredible Italian cuisine. I highly recommend not just staying here, but making sure you dine at the restaurant — it’s easily the best Italian food I’ve had in Costa Rica, and honestly, some of the best I’ve ever had anywhere. The carpaccio was out of this world — probably the best I’ve tasted in my life. The risotto was perfectly cooked and full of flavor, and even the ceviche (with an Italian twist) was amazing. Every dish was prepared with care and creativity. Truly outstanding food and a beautiful setting. This place is a hidden culinary gem — I would come back just for the restaurant alone. Bravo!

Markus and Eva's B&B was an unexpected oasis of luxury and leisure! Located in an otherwise isolated and rural part of the Guanacaste region, we were informed by a fellow traveller that it is the last slice of Costa Rica not yet fully enveloped by the tourist industry. The Palmetto lodge sits high on a steep hill and offers an awe-inspiring view of the vast Pacific Ocean and gorgeous postcard sunsets. The hilltop is exceptionally safe and quiet. Other than the occasional howler monkey, exotic bird or barking dog, it is a very meditative space definitely meant for the refined traveller seeking respite and not for rowdy party animals. The food was simply incredible. Most items are locally sourced or even handpicked from their property - even the yogurt and jams are homemade!
