The location is perfect, 2 min to the BART station, and 10 min walk to UCB campus. And after (recent?) rennovation, it is also super clean and cozy now (my last stay was back to 2018). Breakfast is not included, but everything can be easily ordered through ZINO. Not cheap but taste and service were great.
Located 5 minutes’ walk to University of California Berkeley, this historic Berkeley, California hotel is elegantly kept. An indoor swimming pool with high ceilings and big windows is featured.

I stayed in the hotel on the night of March 22nd, 2025. I had been out with friends to dinner in Oakland that evening. Sometime around midnight, I attempted to gain entrance to the hotel using my key card to open the front door. My key card failed to open the door despite several attempts. I alerted a security guard who was near the entrance inside the hotel. After complying with his request to try the key card several times, he asked me what my name was and my room number. After giving him this information, he went to check their IT system to confirm my identity. When he returned, he told me he could not find me on their register. I assured him that I was who I was, repeating my room number and showing him my key card, which had the hotel's name and room number on its card-holder. It was a glass door and my key card holder and room number on it were clearly visible. He returned to the reception area again and he when he returned, he was accompanied by a second security guard. They both informed me that they could not find my name on the register, eventually telling me openly that I wasn't actually registered. After several minutes of loud protestations from me while still outside on the street, they eventually went again to check the register and then returned saying that they had now found my name on it. They also told me that there was no manager available for me to make a complaint at that time. When I reported the matter to the duty manager at reception in the morning, she told me that she had no knowledge of the incident. I gave her all the details I could remember and asked her to contact me by email with an update after she had investigated. Over one week later, I have had no contact regarding this from the hotel. As a result of this treatment, I would not recommend anyone, let alone a sole traveller like me, for a stay at this hotel.

Peaceful location; wonderful and happy staff; excellent breakfasts and wine hour (actually two hours) with nice nibbles; spacious, comfortable and sumptuous bedrooms. A real home-from-home
These hotels offer something a little different in the way of design and usually sit in a trendy, urban part of town. More intimate than your average hotel, they offer high standards with a homely vibe.
This is a beautiful old hotel, designed by Julia Morgan. The courtyard is a great place to read a book. The breakfast was excellent, especially the two types of quiche. We didn't have enough time to explore everything we wanted to at the hotel, including the indoor pool and the small Julia Morgan museum. We will stay there again on our next trip to Berkeley.
The staff is very helpful and friendly. Very clean room, new furniture. Very comfy bed. No need to explore the room to find an outlet. The bathroom is updated, the towels by the shower! You don't need to be a gymnast to get the towel...
The place is very quiet. The room is not big but it has a very clever design.
Clean, cozy and nicely designed
Great location - really close to Berkeley university and downtown, yet it was nice and quiet at night as we had a back room
Parking is a big plus
Great staff
Clean!!
The room had space, and the room design and bed quality were excellent.
I found some professional worker who was room cleaner and breakfast staff. I liked the way they worked.
Cool design, decent sized room with a small walk in closet - perfect for storing luggage. Bed is comfortable and WiFi good enough for video calls. Loved having a tea kettle in the room!
It's a stunning place to stay at. Everything is so beautiful. The staff is very nice and accommodating. Breakfast is vegan friendly-ish. There is fruit, milk alternatives for coffee and vegan oatmeal. The room came with a clothing iron (with steam - very convenient), ironing board, fan and heater. There's extra pillows and a blanket in the closet. I'll have to hunt down the lotion they are stocking the rooms with, because it is so creamy and smells lovely.
