Situated in Gujo, within 26 km of Gero Station and 2.5 km of Wara History Museum, 和良ポポハウス features accommodation with a garden as well as free private parking for guests who drive.
Warm and welcoming guest houses are ideal for travellers who prefer unfussy accommodation with a personal touch. They are usually family-run, and your host will provide local recommendations and optional meals. Often cheaper than regular hotels, guest houses can also feature a cosy living room and a garden.
Lovely hotel overlooking Gero Onsen. We had only booked bed and breakfast, and our rooms were well appointed and spacious, with views overlooking Gero. The Japanese breakfast was plentiful and good quality. The public Onsen had inside and outside pools which were spacious and relaxing, and very quiet when we visited. There is also a spacious bar, where you can use the Karaoke. The service throughout our stay was excellent.
The guesthouse is occupied by an elderly couple. Even if the communication was a bit difficult (They speak little english and I speak little japanese) they were always very kind and helpful. A free little breakfast was included every morning, and they washed and dried my clothes for me free of charge.
All in all a very warm and welcoming service.
The hosts were more than amicable. I got a free fruit plate breakfast as well as coffee and a quick guide on the area! Definitely would come back again, if my travels bring me to this remote area again!
Cutest little guesthouse that was far away enough that it was nice and quiet but close enough that you could still go to the restaurants and onsens. They are very friendly and accommodating for me and my sister (who is blind). The staff speak English very well, one of the girls even helped us read the omikuji we got at Onsenji temple when we came back from it.
Great stay in old charming house in a small town in the countryside. Perfect for escape from busy cities. Lovely waterfall hike nearby and onsens in the nearby town. Easily reached by train. Felt homely. The elctric blankets were amazing as well as the breakfast. Host speak great English, so no problems with communication. There is wonderful izakaya in the street as well as 300 year old sake brewery and everybody is so nice.
Absolutely everything! We were looking for a true traditional Japanese home stay experience and we got exactly what we wanted. Aki is such a great host and really makes you feel at home. If you're looking for an authentic Japanese experience, then you need to stay here! Thank you Aki, we will definitely be coming back again.
Very kind host, the room was spacious, spotless and filled with the nice tatami smell. You can also borrow yukata and sandals to go to the nearby public baths. Great location !
Izumi-so was my first Ryokan experience and couldn't recommend it more, the host was lovely, kind and accommodating. My room was very nice and the breakfast was delicious; the open air onsen was also lovely at night!
Great location, about a 1-2 minute walk from the center of Gero. 10/10
