Great location next to train station, includes a ticket to the local onsen! Owner was so sweet, she let me keep my bags while I went to check out the monkeys. And she's an amazing chef!

Very cute hostel! Incredibly nice and friendly staff. Complimentary drinks, snacks, and cute illustrated map of the area. Also a quick walk to most areas for site seeing. There is only one shower but it was not an issue.

Mash Cafe & Bed NAGANO has a garden, shared lounge, a restaurant and bar in Nagano. Located around 1.1 miles from Zenkoji Temple, the hostel with free WiFi is also 7.9 miles away from Suzaka Zoo.

What I didn't realise when I booked the dorm is that there are about 18 bed spaces in there. Lockers and the bathroom area are also part of the dorm making it generally quite noisy. I'd recommended asking for a bed as far away from the door, lockers and toilets as possible. There was also this 'lounge' which is basically a tiny room with a microwave and fridge. It was very dirty. It certainly isn't a lounge. I was pretty disappointed with the hostel. All the others I've visited in Japan so far have been better.

Featuring a hot spring bath and a terrace, Nozaru is a 7-minute drive from Yudanaka Station. It offers Japanese-style rooms, free WiFi at the lobby and a games room.

Located at the north end of Shibu Onsen and only about a 15 min drive to Shiga Kogen, this was the perfect location for our ski trip.

Located within a 11-minute walk of Nagano Station and 1.9 miles of Zenkoji Temple, Local Knot Backpackers has rooms in Nagano.

I booked this hostel just for a quick stop over since I'll need to check out early. Location is pretty near the station and has quiet neighborhood. I didn't quite explore the area much as I have limited time but would say I had a comfortable stay in the short time. Amenities are complete and bed is comfy enough plus the staff are all kind and accommodating.

The upstairs room was very clean and was easy to set up. The heaters made it super toasty in the snowy weather. Our host was super welcoming and friendly. There’s a breakfast option which we could pay for and it was worth it! The food was delicious and the servings were very generous. It’s a great location for heading to the snow fields or the snow monkeys, super easy to find and get to transport options.

The location is very convenient if arriving by train - only a few minutes walk. Also restaurants within walking distance. If arriving by car/motorbike there's a few parking spots. Seki-san, the owner, is extremely friendly and helpful! She also cooks a mean (japanese-style) breakfast, highly recommended :) The shared room is split into private rooms using a big divider and even so there were only 2 beds, not 4 as advertised, so definitely less "hostel" and more "hotel" - no bunk-beds here!
