We got a tour with Get your Guide and it was very informative and enlivening. The elevator and walk up to the Dome was 100% worth doing, though my husband and eldest daughter struggled a bit with the confined space and leaning walls of the spiral staircase - so if you aren't good with tight spaces, maybe leave this out. The views however, at sunset, were magical.

Everything inside and out is amazing you will need a few hours to look at the statues and everything else there is to see inside. There is a small museum inside with armed guards at every corner because there is millions of pounds worth of jewels in there and other items belonging to the church.

The lines to get into the basilica are long - hours of wait. I'd recommend you confirm that the day of your visit is not a day where the Pope is holding an audience - the basilica is closed till noon on such occasions. Arrive early - before 7am for a 730am opening and be prepared for a long wait.

    ABSOLUTELY incredible.

ABSOLUTELY incredible. One of the highlights of our trip to Europe. Just blown away. Avoid July/August - we went August 3rd and it was way too hot. We walked up the dome and really struggled due to the heat. Attending mass here was beautiful, with the incredible choir.

    The Basilica was absolutely beautiful.

The Basilica was absolutely beautiful. There is a long line to enter the Vatican museums and Basilica and Sistine Chapel (free of charge but you can pay for skip the line access). You can also pay to take the stairs (500+) or to take the lift to the dome at the top of the basilica. I recommend the lift because there will still be stairs and they are very challenging, especially as you get near the top. Do not attempt if you have physical or health challenges.

We stayed 2 nights from March 28-March 30, 2025. The property is a 10-min walk to St. Peter’s Basilica & a short distance to a Metro. The breakfast is very good. They gave us many things on the cart. We chose to pick boiled eggs or scramble eggs, cappuccino or expresso. Fruits, pastries, cereals on the cart. Elena was very helpful & professional. We enjoyed staying there.
