Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

ArgentinaThe location is great, we were near supermarkets, restaurants, ipanema beach, copacabana beach and arpoador stone, a nice place to watch the sunset. The hostel is lovely, very clean, and we booked a private suite so we were very comfortable. The bed was huge and we slept well. The shower has good water pressure, the sink not so much. Even tho the room was nice, it was a 3rd floor and there is no elevator so i wouldn’t recommend it so much for people with mobility issues, baggage bigger than a carry-on or elderly folks. The staff is SO friendly and kind, there is someone at the reception desk 24/7 to help you with anything. They also helped us get our carry on up the stairs. The kitchen is a bit small and you can’t cook much, you can only boil water. You can store some things in the fridge if you tag it and find a place, which is convenient.

We were looking for a well located, comfortable place to stay in Rio that could accommodate a family. We definitely found it with this hostel. A very reasonable price and located well for everything we wanted to do. Staff were always on hand and always helpful.

United States- Bunk shelf was flimsy and inclined, my stuff and bunkmate's stuff kept falling down - A/C is pretty loud (FYI) although not a problem for me because I had earplugs - Because it's near a beach, it feels like there's always sand/humidity on everything including the beds right up until the A/C has been turned on (around 9PM) for some time
- Location was perfect -> beach, metro, restaurants, cafes steps away and area felt pretty safe (FYI traffic is crazy around) - Amenable to morning beach swims - Showers are very modern and clean - Cleaning staff goes through the showers and bunk rooms every day - Lots of cool interesting people at the hostel and nearby bars

AustriaThe bed furniture (curtains, lamps..) are not the best anymore and would deserve some renovation. 8-bed-dorm tiny.
Very helpful and friendly staff and a cozy atmosphere! Perfect location for all rio visitors who are not looking for the big party-hostels. Perfect location in Ipanema!

IrelandThe kitchen situation - don't advertise a shared kitchen available if you then insist on guests only using the stove top to boil water and nothing else.. ridiculous rules. I've been living in hostels for over 2 years and that was a first for me. Either open the kitchen up for full use or close it for guests and remove it as an available facility in the description

United States1. No curtains on the top bunks, even though the bottom bunks had it. So I had no privacy and protection from somebody shining light at odd hours 2. The hostel needs to institute and enforce quite hours. In my dorm room, daily two girls would come back in the middle of the night (~3am) and make a lot of noise, and go in and out several times at that time, waking me up every single night. 3. The dorm room is pretty small and gets crowded, especially if someone has their bag outside. 4. Wasn't a social hostel, with limited interactions with others in common spaces or any social activities. Whereas, other backpackers I met in Rio, some of their hostels had regular social activities organized which helped them with making friends, and going to parties together. The hostel should consider having social activities/gatherings. 5. I didn't opt to take the breakfast as it seemed pricey at $6 per day for bread, cheese, ham, fruits, and cake. No eggs even. But I soon found out that that's the breakfast you'd find at most Brazilian hostels, surprisingly! 6. Wifi was decent but patchy when it rained. One of the days it was also down for a bit when it was raining.
1. Staff was very helpful and spoke good english, offered valuable suggestions whenever asked, especially Eduardo. 24 hr reception! 2. Great location - ~10 mins walk to Copacabana beach, ~15 mins walk to Ipanema beach, and a metro station just around the corner, a small restaurant around the corner as well which remains open till midnight, quite safe 3. Bathrooms were kept clean 4. Water filter to fill water bottles, and not waste plastic and money to buy water bottles

PolandWe were in a dorm in a bunk bed. Unfortunately the AC was directed at our beds, it is always on at night. Make sure to get a bed not directly below or you might get sick.
Great hostel, with cool tours to join. We did the hike to Dois Irmaos. We rode a moto through a favela and at the top went for a quite moderate difficulty of a hike. Take plenty of water as the views at the top are worth it! Matheus was great 👍🏽 make sure to get breakfast as well at the hostel, it was very tasty! We could leave the luggage after check-out and take a shower before our flight which was great. Highly recommend the hostel!
