The reception, I arrived earlier than I was expected and couldn't check in. I was tired and fell asleep on the couch in the common area.

The bathrooms should be unisex as one of the two genders has a long way through long corridors to reach the closest at either end

Very atmospheric vibes of fortress meets monk cloister. Tight space but doable with hot showers and breakfast included it sweetens the rate , a bit high for a Hostel.

Common room is not a gathering place. Need a hook to hang towel at the sink and some toilets needed a place/ shelf to put your phone down The exterior entry & steps needed to be kept clean and riser covers kept in place

The free hostel/jail tour was excellent with lots of interesting info about the jail. Great location Good breakfast with tasty coffee Large room In my room, not everyone had beside plugs

Private rooms aren't fully enclosed so hallway noise travels through. Some loud music from next door until 1AM on Friday.

The bed is a little small, but comfortable. Shower not very spacious.

Perfect spot to go to skate in the Rideau Canal. They also rent skates if needed. The room was clean. Good breakfast, they had fresh bagels. The staff was kind, we could leave our luggage and use common spaces after checkout. The jail tour included in the stay is a nice one.

Room 504 has a tremendous noise, like a chain against the wall or something. It made really difficult to sleep. The 5 bottom bed bunk mattress needs to be retired. USB ports didn’t work and there were no electrical plugs in beds, good luck with charging your phone or whatever

On Booking.com, the listing showed a "4 Male Dorm," but when I checked in, I found that there were female guests in the room. When I asked the front desk about this, they explained that, aside from the designated female dorm, all other dorms are actually mixed-gender. However, Booking.com does not allow Saintlo Ottawa Jail Hostel to update this information, which has led to this misunderstanding. Since I am unsure where the issue originated, I am sharing my experience here to inform others. Additionally, the room rates fluctuate significantly. On the day of my check-in, I noticed that the price I had booked at was much higher than the rate available at that time.

The front desk staff were very helpful, the breakfast was plentiful and delicious, and the jail tour was excellent. You can even rent ice skates. I later switched my second night to a private jail cell, which was a unique and memorable experience.

For some reason the heating in our floor wasn't working and the radiator was turned off. So it was a little chilly in the room/cell. The staff should provide some heaters in the room. Just for the winter times since it was very cold outside! And there is also very little room in the cell so if you arrive with a big luggage be prepared!

For a jail/hostel, it was an amazing experience staying there! The location is also very convenient for visiting all of Ottawa's sights. Given the size of the room, it was cosy-like and the bed was very comfy. Also as a guest there, you get a free guided tour of the jail which was super fun.

Hooks in the bathroom and another pièce of fourniture in the bedroom for 2, for your stuff Staff very welcoming but didn't speak French 😣 in the capital of Canada! Doesn't represent well our binlingual country. 😔
