Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

CanadaThe bunk bed above was quite low, you will not be able to sit up straight. Breakfast selection was limited.
Perfect location. Reasonably clean bed and shower areas. I requested a lower bunk in a 4 bed room and the staff happily accommodated that.

CanadaGreat value for money with clean facilities, bedding, and towels. Wonderful location for Ottawa city centre. Light sleepers may want good ear-plugs or a white noise App. which worked wonders for me.

CanadaUnfortunately, understanding the limitations of requirements as they’re do it. Also, don’t relevant information about the services.
Overall, as I know is perfect. Services provides required to improve their performance and their manner towards the residents as well as understanding the environment nor only stick on their limits “same exceptions they’re seeing their policies while it’s perfect wasn’t mandatory requirement at the beings of the online universe. HungaryThe only problems I had was not bringing a hairdryer (I know it mimics a jail, but still - backpackers usually don't pack a hairdryer as it takes up too much space), and since my bed was on the floor where the cafeteria/hang out lounge/laundry room is, unfortunately everyone from the rest of the building was using our single bathroom which had 1 shower and 1 toilet where the sink was. The toilet/sink room especially was usually occupied for long periods of time by people wanting to sneak away from their own floors, thinking it's a more "private" bathroom. Since our room itself shared a wall with the kitchen, we were woken up by kitchen staff having way too loud conversations from early morning (they were most likely not aware that we can hear them very well), so I didn't get much sleep. Other than these factors, everything was good. I'd recommend staying on a floor that is more private and bringing your own lock, as you need it to store your things.
This hostel was cleaner and more comfortable than I'd anticipated. My only recommendation would be staying on a floor that is not the same as the kitchen/hangout/laundry room floor for more privacy in the bathrooms and more sleep. I was very happy that even though when booking, it appeared as a shared room with 10 people, the "room" had several cells with only 2 people in each cell - open doors, but still, much more privacy than I expected.

CanadaI wish the lounge area had more couches/armchairs.
I stayed in a single cell room which was just as expected and described. I liked the mattress and a little shelf with night light and a USB port. Noise was not an issue at all. Breakfast was reasonably good given the price, and hot water was available in the lounge the night before. I had no issue finding a free shower in the morning.

Czech RepublicThe room was quiet only from 11 pm to 7 am. I would suggest to change quiet hours from 11pm - 9 am to 22pm to 8 am and that the staff would respect it. The bathroom was dirty. Washrooms were okay. The jail tour (mostly the reason I booked this stay) was only at 11 am - which is so late. We could make it and we could’t check it without any assistance.
The room was quiet comfortable. Good breakfast.

NetherlandsIf you are a couple it might not be the most private hostel. The doors are open at the bottom and top and the rooms echo into the hallways and the other rooms.
Fun experience, clean facilities, good location, very accomodating staff. Noisy hostel but quiet hours were very much respected.

United KingdomStayed in a single cell. Great one off experience and and unique atmosphere, but the two nights I spent were about my limit in a cell that size. First night rolled over in bed and banged knee.
Clean, cheap, good breakfast with proper tea, centrally located, WiFi connected well, excellent free tour of jail for inmates.

UruguayThe doors to the single rooms are ajar. Add to that the fact that it was like a prison, and you could hear all the noise from the other rooms. Unfortunately, the other guests were very noisy and I couldn't get a good night's sleep the first night. If they had shown me a photo of the doors, I would have chosen the shared rooms. The bathroom in my flat was dirty all the time.
The beds are comfortable. The location is very good and the staff is very kind.

CanadaOn the bottom floor there's only one shower for 10 people and to get to the other closest shower you have to go through the dinning room. Floors in the room were not clean enough to be able to walk around barefoot.
Staying in jail hostel was very interesting experience in itself. Hostel is also in walking distance of parliament and the neighborhood with most nightlife.

United StatesIt would be nice to have coffee a little earlier than 7 so those who were leaving early could grab a cup to go. The hallways are very noisy and there were some people on my floor who came in late and were talking very loud, and even though I had a private room, I could not sleep due to the noise.
The staff was very friendly and it was very fun to spend the night in jail. There is free breakfast but it does not start until 7 so unfortunately, I had a bus to catch and could not attend. The WiFi was good and it even worked in my cell, which was not expected!

CanadaVery centrally located, breakfast and hang out spaces were a big plus. You can also use the kitchen downstairs to prepare and store quick meals if you have a longer stay. The 10 person room that I stayed in had its own toilet and sink which was super convenient. Just don't forget to get earplugs from the desk. Noise travels easily across the building due to the way it's constructed (which is actually explained during the tour of the jail).
