Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

GermanyWe stayed at the James Bay Inn in Victoria for three nights and had a fantastic experience. The location is excellent—just a short walk to Beacon Hill Park, the Parliament buildings, and downtown. The staff were very friendly, and everything was exceptionally clean. We also appreciated the complimentary coffee and tea. The hotel has a pub and restaurant on-site, where we enjoyed some delicious burgers.

CanadaSmokers from both the pub and hotel hang out at a corner which was just below our window when we had an upstairs suite at the cottage ,so we had to close it at night to avoid loudish conversation. Also our room in the main hotel could have used an extra bedside table with lighting for convient reading.
Friendly staff in hotel and at conviently located restaurant. This heritage property is most comfortable with an old world ambience in a great neighbourhood. Enjoyed lots of free coffee in lobby in the mornings and pleasant service by staff at all levels.

CanadaRoom was a bit hot the first night, but slept OK by keeping the window wide open. Not clear if we could adjust the heat in any way--afraid to turn down the tap to the hot water radiator lest we screw something up. Might have helped if there were instructions in the room about how to control the heat?
Comfortable, clean, sunny room. Bed was very comfortable. Instant abundant hot water in the sink and shower. Staff was most pleasant and helpful, suggested (and found for us) a better room than I had originally booked. Excellent downtown location.

CanadaNothing, this was a great stay in a cool place. I've stayed in so many places in victoria and this is one of my very favorites.
This is such a cool building to stay in, rich with history, easy walking distance to almost everything, pub and diner in the bottom for easy eating, and very quiet at night. But the best thing is the staff ! The staff were all so friendly, funny and just lovely to chat with.

United KingdomThe Inn rightly prides itself on its history and tradition. However if the heating system was updated e.g. with thermostats in each room, the old style could be maintained but at the same time be more comfortable and friendly to the environment. Instead of lots of tiny portions of milk, to reduce plastic, perhaps a different system could be thought of eg using a jug or flask?
Excellent location in lovely part of Victoria, near bay, museum, pask etc All staff were lovely, helpful and pleasant wifi free parking in centre was a great bonus the cafe/restaurant downstairs was great with private bay areas for small groups to be together the complimentary coffee in the morning was plentiful and excellent quality

United Statesit's not wheel-chair accessible - which would be impossible to fix without a major re-vamp. it'd be extra special if it came with free breakfast but there is free coffee. No real constructive criticism.
This place is a historic landmark - lavish halls filled with antique, period furniture. Emily Carr lived the very end of her life here and the house where she grew up (now a museum) is right down the road. It's a little enchanted fragment of a richer, more elegant past. So close to Beacon Hill Park you can taste the open water and feel the closeness of nature. Ten minutes from the Museum and Legislature. Beautiful art all over the walls, friendly and helpful staff, lovely diner and pub underneath - it's a unique lens to see Victoria through. Must visit. Very special.

CanadaNo independent thermostat. Too much furniture in the room. No room safe. Suggest getting rid of mini fridge and chest of drawers. Mount TV on the wall or a narrow console. Add a power bar on the desk so devices can be plugged in without getting on hands and knees to reach only available outlet.
Parking & wifi were included. Charming residential neighborhood. Room was freshly redecorated. Blackout curtains were effective. Breakfast hours were most of the morning so ok to sleep in. Food was tasty with free coffee refills.
