Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

CanadaI was a little disappointed with the food in the restaurant.
The hotel is beautiful and the staff are really good at both the front desk and the restaurant.

United KingdomPool massively over-chlorinated - did horrible things to the enamel on my teeth! They clear tables too quickly. I hate to think how much unnecessary washing up they do just because they clear a table too quickly. And I'm sick to death of every hotel in the world inviting guests to care about the environment by reusing towels (something I'm very happy to do) and then changing them anyway! https://www.linkedin.com/posts/lyn-roseaman-7093026_sustainabletourism-marketing-environment-activity-7301564372538056706-02v4?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_android&rcm=ACoAAAEc1XkBgxaZWTMABDWWQsqQOlo4410IbiA

United KingdomThis hotel is an old school gem which we loved but some may find it a little old fashioned or tired in places, especially for the cost.
For us this hotel was perfect. They upgraded us to a room overlooking the pool which was beautiful and the room was super comfortable and spacious. The staff were so attentive and helpful and the restaurant and bar was brilliant. It is the perfect base for exploring the temples and an oasis to come back to.

AustraliaThe Phoenix is a modernized heritage hotel with everything a western traveller wants. The breakfast is huge so you don't get bored with the selection. The gym is exceptionally good and is large and well equipped. My wife said the spa was great. We spent 4 nights here and were very happy with our choice. The staff are increibly friendly, especially Gita on reception.

United KingdomApart from an included buffet breakfast, the other meals in the Hotel are not a great value for money.
Staff was very attentive. First morning we asked for an Oat-porridge that was not part of the buffet breakfast: they immediately made it (perfect!), and every subsequent morning we did not have to ask for it, as soon as they saw us coming, they made it for us ! Very nice interior. Also, some history: during the short time Yogyakarta was the capitol of the country, then president Soekarno stayed at the Hotel, and his original office is still there !

Malaysiaour room was at the back of hotel, a bit of a walk to get to but didnt really mind it. so when you have plenty of shopping to bring to room, best to ask for room closer to the lobby
the colonial setting was preserved very well making it a unique stay. Enjoyed every nook and corner of the hotel because there was always something new to discover

AustraliaAll was wonderful.
The Phoenix was one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The staff were so accomodating, always offering service with a smile. The room overlooked a part of the city (with local houses, gardens and frangipani trees), which I enjoyed as it gave a glimpse into the everyday life of Yogyakarta. A central location, and very easy to take a GRAB car/taxi ride from the front door. (I do not recommend walking to places, as it requires crossing a very busy road, though the security guard can escort you across the road if you ask) Overall, the hotel is elegant, and the pool, gym, and historical decor are well maintained. The restaurant and laundry service are reasonably priced considering the convenience of an in-house service. I would happily stay there again.

United KingdomA minor thing but stronger tea at breakfast ( we’re European!) or extra breakfast tea bags by the hot water would be good!
Lovely hotel , friendly staff , great breakfast, spotlessly clean and lovely pool. We enjoyed our stay and loved the little touches that made the hotel stand out such as the nightly turn down service and little gifts .. it is a good 15-20 min walk to downtown but grabs are so cheap and the walk is past lovely batik shops do not a problem.

AustraliaThe lift doesn't have an AC, so I prefer to take stairs. No AC makes the lift feel like being inside an oven.
Ambiance, the subtle smells of jasmin & lemon grass, gamelan played subtlety on the background. Comfy beds, friendly & professional staff. Interior decor blending Javanese and Chinese heritage with a touch of European influence. AND the breakfast is amazing!!

Location: Excellent. The hotel is conveniently located near Malioboro Street and Yogyakarta Train Station, within a 2km radius. Service: Good. ! The receptionist spoke good English and even walked with me to show my room, which was a nice touch. Cleanliness & Hygiene: Overall good. The room and common areas were well-maintained. I walked to the hotel area and its really kept well Room & Amenities: The bed was comfortable, and there was a power socket near the table, which was convenient. However, the Water Pressure: Good and consistent.

AustraliaThe Phoenix Hotel is a beautiful historic building that perfectly blends Chinese and Indonesian heritage. Its basically a living museum full of gorgeous wall tiles and antiques, plus adorable pairs of lovebirds in ornate cages - they even offer a quick tour around to explain it’s history and show you Indonesia's first president's office and secret side room. The in-house food is fantastic - the morning buffet offers a huge selection of Western, Asian and Indonesian dishes, including a super tasty Jamu station. If you haven't tried local dishes yet, this buffet is the perfect place to explore Indonesian cuisine. For our Borobudur Temple visit, we used the hotel's transport service and they thoughtfully prepared a huge packed breakfast for the journey. The driver is yours for around 5 hours so you can easily tick off a few other sights. After a day of touristing I highly recommend heading to the Vino Bar & Cafe for some awesome cocktails (or a hot chocolate!) and a game of pool. As they have the same menu as the main dining restaurant, its also a great place to hang out in the evenings. The location is ideal as you can walk to Jalan Malioboro's shops and museums but the traffic can be a bit full on, I recommend getting either a Blue Bird Taxi or one of the tuk-tuks conveniently parked out front. 10/10 - an incredibly beautiful building full of antiques and art, with a fascinating history and awesome staff. A must-stay in Yogyakarta!

IndonesiaIf you are a little noise sensitive (as I am), maybe ask for a room away from the dining area, as the breakfast starts early (which is nice) The rest of my family didn't have any problems with the "noise".
The hotel is beautiful! Full of history and charm. The biggest breakfast buffet I have ever seen with great options. This hotel has it all, truly. Nice and helpful staff, great location, and lots of facilities
