Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesHonestly, there was nothing that I did not like or would have suggested to be changed. This hotel was great and I would stay again.
Our room location was very private and we had a great view of the glacier out the window. The breakfast was excellent with both local and international selections. The location was perfect - only 5 minutes from the National Park entrance.

United KingdomFood prices were expensive - even for Iceland. An adjustment in the pricing would be an improvement.
A lovely hotel. We had a room at the back with an amazing view of the glacier from our window. You can actually walk from the back of the hotel to the glacier. The food in the restaurant was exceptional. There was a garage opposite with a cafe. We had a look but did not find the food appetising - we had eaten at the restaurant before looking at the cafe and felt we were spoilt with the hotel restaurants quality. I would certainly recommend this hotel.

United StatesLoud. Tiny room. Super hard bed. Stained towels. Felt like I was staying in a hostel.
Standard European breakfast was nice. Dinner at the restaurant did not meet expectations after reading other reviews. Beds were unbelievably hard and seemed small for twins. We had the misfortune of having some sort of really loud generator (?) going all night, which we heard because we kept our window open since the room was so warm. We stayed in many hotels around Ring Road and I felt this was the least impressive.

ItalyEverything was good.
I only spent a night, but I had a great time at Hotel Skaftafell. There are many things I liked about it, the room was warm and clean and the breakfast was excellent. Plus, the position. Very easy to reach and if you like to walk, just behind the hotel there's a trail surrounded by a beautiful vegetation that leads you to the magnificence of the glacier. I'd also like to mention the kindness I found at this hotel. The staff was really kind and helped me a lot by giving useful suggestions based on the weather of those days as well. I would definitely recommend this hotel!

The location was amazing. Literally at the foot of a glacier. Rooms were simple and spotlessly clean. Nice restaurant and bar on site. There is also a gas station across the street with a great restaurant.

United KingdomAs is often the case in Iceland, this place is effectively a guesthouse at the price of a good hotel. The restaurant at the hotel is terribly overpriced - there is a diner across the road that is two times cheaper. They've asked 4,000 ISK for using their washing machine - thank you but no thank you. Again, the only reason we chose the place was because there were no other options available in the vicinity of the iceberg lagoon.
The room was quiet, beds and pillows reasonably comfortable.

United StatesThe decor is kind of tacky (there is a big public toilet style toilet paper holder on the bathroom wall that dispenses one tiny square at a time), but the hotel was very clean and all in all pretty comfortable for a reasonable price.
This hotel was not the least bit fancy, but it was very clean and had all the necessary things for sleeping, showering and eating near the glacier. I thought that the glacier was easily visible from the hotel, but it is actually a 15 minute hike from the back of the hotel to get a good look at it. That said, you can walk right up to the glacier once you hike the 15 minutes, and my husband thought it was really cool to be so close.

SwitzerlandThe hotel itself is honestly depressing and clearly overpriced for what it is. Our triple room looked more like a double room with the third bed squeezed in, so there was literally no free space even to open our suitcases, The furnishings are austere and low-quality. Bathroom needed quite a thorough cleaning. In terms of toiletries there was some green liquid in a big bottle provided in the bathroom, but we didn't use it as we were not sure if this was not a cleaning liquid left behind by a room maid.
Though hotel Skaftafell is located in the middle of nowhere, its location is super-efficient for exploring the Skaftafell national park with all its glaciers. Jokulsarlon and Fjallsarlon glacial lagoons and horse-riding. The restaurant is a highlight (and pretty much the only option as there's virtually nothing nearby) - the food is quite inventive, well-cooked and flavoursome. The restaurant service is also warm, friendly and efficient.
