Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

CanadaStayed in this hotel for 6 nights in early April because of the Sakura. Pros: The location is excellent, just across the street of Ameyoko. Neutral: As expected, the room is pretty small. Cons: Even outside temperature is 15°C, the room temperature is a bit warm. Tried to turn on the air conditioner, but the system mode is set to “Heat”. It can’t be changed because it is controlled by the hotel. Tried to speak to the front desk, but they can’t speak English. It is pretty common in Japan, but I wonder how they can assume everyone can understand Japanese. Google Translate is a must. She told me I can press the power button twice to switch the mode, but this so-called solution is just to turn the system from on to off. Finally, she said just open the window. I turned on the hair dryer and set it to cool as a fan. Nothing else I can do. UPDATE: The hotel turned off the heat in the following day, and turn the fan mode on. It is not the air conditioning because it has no temperature setting. At this point, all I can say is better than nothing. At least I can sleep well. UPDATE #2: Finally in our last 2 days they turned the “cool” mode. It is back to a normal hotel room and much much better. But everyone is different, without the control by each traveller is not a good practice. I know they have to turn the compressor on and off, but staying in room with 28°C+ is bi not a good experience

MaltaYes of course the room is small, it's an APA hotel. You can't decide heating or cooling, but if you don't like that day's prescription in the elevator you can just turn off the AC?
You get what you pay for. Very good price per value, suitcases go under the bed, bathroom door opens above the suitcase. It's the small things other business hotels just can't do. Good location, very close to Ueno park, to Ueno station.

MexicoA very modern building with an outstanding service. The checkin and checkout process were smooth and quick. Some may think the rooms are small but I think it was just fine. At first I thought the pillows might be a little too hard, but once I slept on them I realized the were very confortable, and it actually helped with a little neck pain I had when I arrived at Japan. The public barhrooms were an amazing plus and absolutely worth the price of the stay (though it might help to give guests some type of manual or instructions on the proper onsen etiquette. I think a lot of people may already know or resesrch on their own, but I noticed some people were a little lost). The location was also ideal, and there are a number of conbinis really close by. I enjoyed my stay a lot, and will definitely consider it for a future trip when I'm in Tokyo.

United StatesThe downside of this hotel location is that despite being quite close, Ueno station is huge, and has an absolute MAZE of street access and walking bridges right next to multiple levels of tracks, as well as the road. Google Maps couldn't tell me where I was, because there were too many concrete and metal structures interfering with signal. There was also only 1 elevator I could find so when I was carting my luggage to the hotel, I ended up going up and down staircases repeatedly as I tried to figure out where the hotel actually was. (Of note, the Ueno Park APA Hotel is also very close by, and easier to see from the upper walking bridges at the station, so don't get confused.) I did eventually find the hotel, and figure out the easiest routes too and from it and the interesting spots around it. But that first time traveling there was stressful. If you know Ueno Station or plot a route before travel, it shouldn't be too difficult.
This was a very comfortable compact hotel room, really well located in the Ueno area. It is VERY close to Ueno Station, was a short walk over to Ueno Park, and essentially across the street from Ameya Yokocho, which is a fun touristy market street that has a LOT of great places to eat and shop in it. I didn't get breakfast at the hotel restaurant because I knew there was a lot of places to eat, but ironically, I mostly ate at conbinis instead. I should have gotten the breakfast anyway. The public bath was really enjoyable! At least for the ladies side, going in late morning, or early afternoon was generally very quiet.

United KingdomRoom decor felt a bit musty and the lack of sunlight made it rather dark and dingy, so not great for working in during the day. Instead, it would make a convenient base for sightseeing (I.e. for anyone not needing to spend much time in their room) as it’s conveniently located to Ueno park, train stations etc. Breakfast wasn’t the best either (Japanese/Western fusion - limited selection no veg/tofu though some cereal & salad available).
Excellent location - 5 mins to Ueno station and Ueno shopping street, 10 mins to Kesei-Ueno station to Narita. So easy to walk to/from with suitcase etc. Good onsen for women - with 1 indoor and 2 outdoor baths.

United StatesIt was not clean. I didn’t make a fuss about it because I arrived late because my Shinkansen was delayed and I just wanted to go to sleep. There were hairs in the bed and on the bathroom sink. The desk had oily fingerprints. The carpets were in bad shape.
The best part of the property was the open-air onsen and they provided free luggage storage after check out so I could explore Ueno without carrying my bags around.

FranceThe room was tiny, the bed very uncomfortable, the staff were basically non existent and those that were there were rude. The luggage storage was not at all secure. The room was above a freeway and we had noise all night from traffic and got basically no sleep.
Location was fantastic for getting the Shinkansen and the airport shuttle. Very close to the stations and the zoo and museums
