Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):

To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

This hotel was perfect, huge room, they took into consideration my request for a high floor, and was great to see the mountains from the 8th floor room. Location is amazing, you have Nishiki Market and others, is perfect if you want to try all the foods at max 300 meters away. Bath was huge and really big tub that you can relax easy after you walk 15km each day. We stayed 8 days and we liked it, plus is a plus you have a washing machine and dryer in the room.

The location was excellent, right next to the Nishiki street. Bus stops are all near, taking buses and train to get around the city was very convenient. The hotel is in a busy area, but not noisy at all. Love the microwave and washer/dryer in the room.

There was nothing I didn't like.
Great quiet and comfortable hotel in an excellent location in the heart of a lively shopping and dining district. Very clean with free drinks provided in reception. Plenty of dining options on your doorstep, so no need for a restaurant of it's own.

My room was very clean and a nice size. The in-room laundry machine was a plus. The location is perfect for shopping and dining. It is also close to a train station entrance and several bus stops. The lobby also has a coffee machine and toiletries. The staff were really nice and helpful.

I would have liked housekeeping included, but it wasn't a deal breaker as we stayed only for 2 days.

The television channels only had Japanese channels.

There is noise from the exhaust in the toilet that I didnt know how to turn it off except to pull up the key card and make all electricity in the room turned off. So we sleep through the night with the sound of exhaust

Though the hotel is nice and in a great location the price was very steep. Fairly common in Kyoto though.
Great hotel, very relaxing atmosphere and spacious rooms. Location is fantastic though beware, most restaurants in the area are busy and you have to wait in line. If you are good ok foot many sites are in walking distance from the hotel. Though it is super central, the hotel exudes a very calm atmosphere and the rooms are quiet.

This was easily the best western style hotel we stayed in during our trip. The room was large and the bathroom facilities were very high-end. The combined washer/dryer worked well but as usual with these types of machines, the dryer really only works with half a load.

Excellent location. Right in the center of the shopping district with covered streets for blocks. Could shop and eat even on rainy days. Train entrance is right around the corner. Does need to walk a few minutes underground to get there. There is a washing/dryer combo machine IN SUITE. No need to pay for laundry service. All in all a great stay.
