Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content

- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence

To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

The staff were incredible - so helpful and welcoming. Everything was very clean and the facilities were great. Having a washing machine in the room was fantastic and loved the size of the room. The location was brilliant. We had an excellent stay here and definitely would return.

We had an amazing time! Thanks to the wonderful innkeepers and all the helpful staff. The room was spotless and well-equipped with a microwave, washing machine and dryer. There was no extra charge for this. The bedrooms were also very shaded at night. What impressed us the most was the excellent communication from the inn. When we left on our last day, the hostel owner gave us a very convenient route to the airport, which saved us a lot of trouble!

Excellent hotel. New construction. The room is fully equipped. It has everything that you need, including a washing machine. Great value. Location is excellent. Walking steps to Nishiki market and other shopping centers. Easy access to train station. Staff is extremely nice and helpful.

Fabulous family run hotel in a really great location. The staff were super friendly and amazingly helpful (they organised our luggage transfer for us and were really friendly) and the room was comfortable and very well equipped - super clean with the added bonus of a washing machine and drying facilities in the room which is really useful. Loved our stay here and will definitely be coming back!

All. Simple as that. The rooms were super clean and super comfy. The location is great. 1 step from Nishiki market. Say no more. The Staff were extraordinary friendly and welcoming. We have enjoyed every minute and will sure get back again.

not a single thing!
Room was huge, with a small kitchen and a washing machine! Location was ok, easily accessible with public transport. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, they helped us with sending our luggage to our next destinations, and were very patient with all of our questions! This was our very best stay in all of our trip to japan!

We had such a wonderful stay in Goco Hotel. We booked the smallest room and for us it was clearly enough. The hosts are so kind, always welcoming and happy to answer your questions and to give recomendations (restaurants, locations, etc.). Free water and coffe in the entrance. If you need an umbrella, they can borrow you one as well. Location is fantastic, we visited most of the places on foot. If we come back to Kyoto, we will not hesitate to stay in Goco Stay again.

I stayed in the double bed room. Compact but functional, clean, with a washing machine and detergent. The staff were so helpful and gave us extra blankets and a cutting knife to borrow when we needed it. I saw them helping another group search for nearby restaurants. There's a free water dispenser downstairs and they give you a glass pitcher to keep in your fridge. Free coffee and tea too. Location is very convenient but also tucked away in a side street so it wasn't noisy at all. There is a terrace on the 5th floor with tables and umbrellas. I'd recommend this to anyone who wants to stay in central Kyoto near Kyoto Kawaramachi station.

The room was a bit small, but for the price, it is hard to complain about. The value was great for what we got. Would 100% stay here again.
The property was located in a really great location by Nishiki market as well as located by a lot of shopping and not too far from the famous Gion district. It was fun to walk around our area and we really enjoyed the vintage shops near by and it was easy to get to all of the tourist attractions that we wanted to see. Another thing that I really liked about this stay was the cold water in the lobby that you could bring back to your room. Often walking around and sweating so much you can easily become dehydrated so it was great to have access to filtered cold water and it was very refreshing. What really set this experience apart was the customer service though here. First off the staff here all speaks a really impressive level of English. It was so easy to talk to them and they were always friendly and smiling. Very refreshing after staying at many different hotels. The older gentleman there was a highlight of our trip and experience in Kyoto. He really went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and recommended us stuff to do that we found fun and fulfilling. He was also really excellent at giving us directions and was able to tell us the best routes to places that google maps wasn’t able to. It was extremely helpful when we were leaving and my phone was about to die, he offered to let us stay and charge it but he also wrote down the directions and transfers to where we needed to go to. This was crucial for our trip after my phone died to getting to our next hotel and I really appreciate his kindness.

The location and accommodations were amazing. But the staff was beyond exceptional. Even if I could afford the most expensive hotel in Kyoto, I would still prefer to stay here.
